I bought one of these while drunk or something.
Do they work worth a fuck?

Unfortunately I only have a prybar, chisel and punch.if you just had a screwdriver to install it and see if it worked
Amazon.white-rhino did you get the Amazonian or rugged version?
That is a UHF transit antenna. It will not work well for VHF.
A VHF transit antenna will have about 1/3 the range of a properly tuned 5/8 wave whip. They are not especially sturdy, tree branches will make short work of them.
Amazon.
Got tired of forgetting to take down my antenna every time I load the Jeep into the trailer. Problem is I haven't tested it more than 300-400 ft.
Doc and Dale had them on our Montrose trip. Seemed to work OK.
Ah, dual band, couldn't see that in the pic. Still less than stellar Performance.
Is it?
I literally took that picture ahead of time because I knew somebody would say that.Ah, dual band, couldn't see that in the pic. Still less than stellar Performance.
Liked stated above, about 1/3 the range if they are both properly mounted. They are the main reason police spec radios were 100w when they only needed 30 mile range on average. Even with repeaters.I literally took that picture ahead of time because I knew somebody would say that.
How bad is it relative to the correctly tuned (cut to length...) regular chintzy whip antenna?
I didn't buy it for long range communication. I bought it for decent communication while trail riding with a group. If I need long range, I'll throw the big antenna back on.Liked stated above, about 1/3 the range if they are both properly mounted.
