The event posts are kind of weird, thanks for making the dates easier to find!

I imagine it is too close to Trail Hero for you?

We actually leave TH and head straight to an event in Hot Springs AR....we've missed it for 5 years (date conflict) and they pushed it back a week this year.

They were looking at moving it a week later to help deconflict with Trail Hero, but I forgot why they ended up keeping it the same week again this year.

Chile Challenge used to be held in February back when it was based out of the Las Cruces area, but King of the Hammers started creating a conflict. They changed it to October when it moved to Caballo, but now Trail Hero is causing the same issue again, which is a shame, because early October is perfect wheeling weather in Southern New Mexico.

What trails are you signing up for? I'd prefer to group up with you if possible being that it'll be my first attempt at attending.

I forgot which trails I volunteered for on Friday and Saturday, I'll have to bug Ernie to remember. I'll probably volunteer for Wednesday and Thursday too, but I'll let you know when I lock it in. They'll be mostly 6 and 7 rated trails.

Your rig would be fine on the 7+ and 8 trails, but those are getting spicy for my BII and I don't have a winch on it which you will probably need on Cabin and Crystal.

Man I want to come down there and wheel these trails. I'm hoping to make it out next year

Hit me up if you do or if you get a bug to come out some other time during the year. Caballo is as big as the Hammers, so you could make a couple of trips out and still not see all the good stuff.

Our crew is still debating.

Good to see you made it over here Brian.

Turns out we may show up Saturday for Warpath or something...Doing a little tour of Southern NM 'wheelin this week.

It was another great event this year, I think I heard the official number of registered rigs was 204. The articulation ramp contest on Thursday night was a hit. I figured we would only get a handful of people participating, but I got stuck measuring and scoring for 2.5 hours

Wednesday we ran Batman with a fairly large group and went over to Spillway afterwards. I got to watch the first full body I know of make it :smokin:

Thursday I led Sidewinder and Breath Taker, then we headed down into Green Canyon, but there was another group on it, so we went and ran Brandon's Boulders instead. We ended up running into Brian1 on Brandon's. Some of the group continued on through Hooker's Corner, but my front locker wasn't working at that point, so I ran back to camp to diagnose it. willis_racing and I screwed around a bit on the ramp prior to the competition, but neither of us were close to the top-scoring guys. One guy managed to max out the ramp in his rear steer car, but of course I was too busy measuring to take pictures :homer:

Friday I fixed the loose connector pin the was keeping my locker from actuating and led Narrows and Green Canyon, then checked out some caves and Mines. There was a blind-folded slow crawl competition near the pavilion and some catered barbecue for dinner

Good times! Our group ran Hookers/Brandons 1st day, Crystal Canyon 2nd day and Greens, Off Again and Washout the last day.

Someone sabotaged my fuel hose so I wouldn't win the RTI contest

Saturday I lead Apache Canyon, but it ended up being just my father and willis_racing on the trail with me which was cool. We watched the group running Warpath get up the first section since it just continues up the canyon after you climb out on Apache. We drove up to the towers on the top of the Caballo mountains for some killer views, then came back through the Palomas Gap and crossed the Rio Grande to get back to camp. There were huge flocks of crane migrating south every morning which was pretty cool.

It would have been interesting since you are 20-30" shorter wheelbase than the people who were leading the competition.

My crawler decided on Monday night it wasn't gonna run good enough to go on the trip so we loaded up the wife's 2014 4runner and made the 2day trip out from Mississippi. We ran Rincon to sparkys Thursday and had a great time. My wife hurt her back so I ended up riding with some guys from Albuquerque. Broke a 14bolt shaft on brandons boulders Friday, got a replacement in El Paso and ran Godzilla on Saturday. Can't wait to come back next year with the crawler.
Saw the bronco 2 on the trailer going out on Saturday as I was going down to the raffle.
