I've always been an anti chevy person and have been strongly considering a ford maverick but for the price these seem like way more of a truck. Claimed mid 20s mpg and a 9000lb tow rating.

Would it be wishful thinking to get 125k plus out of one of these with basic maintenance?

You are someone who works the truck.

Money ahead sticking with something naturally aspirated and with less things to go wrong.

4 cylinder and turbo should not be in a fullsize truck. Perhaps in a compact truck of 90's.

One mans opinion. YMMV

I agree 100% but this would be for light duty. Wife stuff and towing 6k or less... and anything else costs 15k more

The size is a bigger difference than anything. Maverick would still be better for in town stuff, full width better for all those things. It'd be fine in town, just not as nimble.

My wife just yesterday cam around in her head that she'd rather a maverick than bronco when he escape gets replaced:laughing: took a couple years of looking at them variously

I grabbed this off of a dealer ad, now keep in mind that GM loves to cut corners (they all do really)

"This is no ordinary 4-cylinder engine as it is packed with technology like Active Fuel Management, Direct Injection, Auto Start/Stop, Active Thermal Management, and 3-phase Camshaft."

When that shit starts going sideways its a fire sale...

I also hear you on the cost of heavy duty trucks, I will nurse my craptastic 5.4 3valve for as long as I am able to. Much for the same reasons, also it is very basic compared to modern stuff: manual locking hubs, manual shift tcase etc.

we moved away from Chevys in our fleet within the last two years. their quality is awful. all of our trucks got transmissions, engines, or both before 75k. the most egregious one was a 2022 Chevy 1500 that windowed the block with a rod threw it at around 6,000 miles. it was returned to the dealer and parked next to 6 other trucks that had the same problem. i think we got a brand new truck instead of waiting on a new engine.

The Chevy 2.7s?

I am willing to bet 2BB can pick up an older truck, have it gone through and have less $ tied up and more durable truck vs most new crap out there.

Durability/simplicity trumps exotic powertrain for me. If I want mpg I will ride a scooter:laughing:

Is this 2.7 available in a suburban? Might make for a more economical full size people/cargo mover. I'm also slightly interested in the diesel suburbans, but modern diesel reliability scares me.

My gf is set on buying a new Tahoe. 5.3 10 speed z71.
How much am I going to regret letting her do that?

It's only money, right? :flipoff2:

Personally, after owning and driving several GMs ranging from the 90s to 2020s, I am hesitant to get into anything newer than 2006. But I could say that for a lot of makes. Maybe I am becoming a luddite?

That's why I bought a used 2020 F150 5.0. Sure, it has cam phasers that will likely give me trouble in the future, but religiously changing the oil seems to keep those problems mostly at bay. Compare that to a 2021 Chevy or Ram offering, and its a no-brainer.

I like the power and mileage of the newer stuff, but post Covid seems to be a crap shoot for reliability.
So far I haven’t been impressed with fit and finish on any of the rigs she’s looked at.

My '05 F250 5.4 3valve gets fresh oil/filter every 3k like clockwork.

Everything I read about cam phaser issues, including FordTechMakuloco whose opinion counts mentions being fastidious about oil changes takes care of premature issues.

That's fair. I've got some COVID era vehicles in my fleet, and they do seem to have some quality issues above and beyond non-COVID era vehicles.

we saw it before covid with the GM offerings. the 2014s we had were all pretty solid trucks, made it until 200k with few issues (2500 gassers), we bought a slew of 2017s and 2020s (those 2020s were made pre-covid in 2019) and they were just all hot garbage from the get-go. we dumped most of those and our ram 2500 big hemis have been twice the trucks those 2020 chevys were with none of their problems. some are getting close to 100k-125k miles. i think one had to have an A/C compressor.

How much am I going to regret letting her do that extra $1600 for some red tow hooks and a skid plate is fucking retarded.
Paying an extra $1600 for red tow hooks and a skid plate is fucking stupid. :homer:
