CD to mp3

I know, I'm old and don't understand technology. But I'd like to load some CD's onto my laptop and then install them onto my MP3 player. Any help would be great.

A few years back, I ripped a bunch of CDs I own to MP3s using Windows Media Player. I'm sure there are slicker ways, but that did it for me. Need to select the format & bitrate before ripping, then easy-ish.
