My 85 year old Mom has a big mess in her back that surgery is not likely to fix and has a great deal of pain. At this point cannabis products seem a lot less scary than the usual pain killers. What's out there that might help her?

Thanks.

Try multiple options. CBD, THC, both combined.

My mom only liked the THC edibles during her cancer treatment. Pretty sure she just enjoyed being high as fuck.

Myself, it amplifies it. Anything I smoke will make any pain worse. Sucks.

Tried some a friend had during a gout flare up, made the pain worse (allowed me to "concentrate" on the pain, if you will).

I later researched that there are specific strains that are supposed to work for gout, but I haven't tried any of them.

If I'm not careful, same with anxiety.

When I'm high, I can super fixate on the shit I'm anxious about. The idea cannabis is always great for anxiety is often bull shit.

(and people will say, you are using the wrong strain and terpenes... and strain sometimes makes a difference, and but someday your body reacts different to stuff you consumed from the same bag yesterday)

a dr prescribes it to me,,

like many medicines 2 doses a day is not enough..

its like drinkin 2 beers and complaining that you didnt get drunk

if i'm takin tylenol or alieve aint no way i'm stoppin with 1 or 2 pills

but i'm prescribed for PTSD

Definitely doesn’t do shit for gout except add to the dehydration which is counter productive.

Literally the only way to know is to try.

I have a guy here at work that swears by balms. Has two vertebrae fused just above his pelvis.

Helps with my hip pain some, but mostly I just like being high enough to not give s fuck shit it and go to sleep.
Weed nap is always the solution.

Some of it is the cannabis strain. Indica varieties tend have a relaxing/sleepy effect (bedtime weed). Sativa is more heady/cerebral - can see that playing up anxiety, possibly. (daytime weed). Then theres all the % hybrids between the two main strains.

Imho, THC is going to be what masks or distracts you from pain - and get you high. CBD is largely an anti-inflammatory; it may help reduce the condition that is causing the pain. CBD wont get you high on its own... but many products still have a THC component to them.

Absolutely was a game changer when my back was fucked up. Per current occupation I no longer have that option, but cbd balm on arthritic hands and bunged up knee flare ups works well. Let her try gummies for a week and see if it helps, old people don't tend to eat enough food anyway.

It really depends on the type of pain. It helps with inflammation a lot and if that's the source of the pain, it works. If it's nerve pain or something similar unrelated to inflammation it's not going to do much physically. May help with associated stress, anxiety, etc.

CBD can do a lot on it's own and there aren't the legal aspects to worry about if that's an issue. Know a lot of flooring guys who swear by it. Helps my back and does a lot for stress/anxiety without any of the high at all. If I smoke weed it's very, very obvious and I'm a real lightweight. I take CBD at work every morning and you'd never know a difference.

This cbd is 4000 mg and MSM work great

Exactly what it would do to me. I thought I must've gotten the short straw until I heard my buddy exclaim the same thing.

In my experience, I just end up high and in pain. it’s a weird experience but the pain is still there.

Same. Aches are extraordinarily achy. Kinda like how they say it heightens your senses - I could sure sense my pain.

In my experience it didn't help when I screwed up my back years ago or my leg. I just wanted something to take the edge off so I could sleep. Anxiety, restlessness, literally focused on the injured area. I haven't bothered try it for anything else.

My best trick is double dose of Advil and Melatonin. NSAIDS aren't exactly great for you though...

I used a TENS when my leg was in the brace. It helped quite a bit with circulation and keeping the largely inactive muscles firing so they didn't atrophy so bad. Pad locations can be found on the internet for specific areas.

Mrs bought a CBD ointment / balm(?) to try to get relief from some joint pains. I’ve tried it too. Neither one of us have noticed anything different ¯\(ツ)

Have you looked into glucosamine, allflex, collagen, etc? Some tools are better for certain jobs....

Honestly, this senior citizen thing just kind of crept up on me. My issues are mostly in my hands. I’m sure I have some early arthritis happening. I also have a genetic thing (Dupuytren's contracture) that is effecting my right hand. I’m setting up with a new Doc (thankfully I have great insurance). I don’t usually complain about much, I’ve been through worse.

A colleague has some gnarly arthritic hands.... He's using a strong cbd balm/cream something like mentioned in post #15 for pain relief and improved mobility.

Look up the carnivore thread. It's supposed to help a lot with arthritis.

What interesting about gout is its referred to the rich man disease as in rich foods coffee shellfish and meat wine. Research now pointing too much fructose.
