What's new

Bought a house from 1810 (and some other stuff)

It was listed at 650k on a major website/MLS and you can sell it for a cool million tomorrow?

I wouldve figured savvy real estate folks wouldve jumped on it. They're vultures in TX, my folks get letters almost daily from people wanting to buy property.

It's like that here now. Great if you've got property and you're trying to get out, but it fucking sucks if you're from the area and are rapidly getting priced out of it.

I lived on a similar property for a few years, fucking awesome location too. Country enough but 10 min from all kinds of shit and major highways. 1000 acre property with 4 houses on it. Older guy's family had owned it for years, he rented the 4 hours on it out for next to nothing for the area just to cover the property taxes. Offered to sell it to my uncle and I for a million, but we weren't in any position to swing it at the time. He ended up dying two years ago and his kids evicted everyone and sold the property off immediately for millions. Developer bought it and bulldozed the 4 houses that had been there since the 1700s and 1800s and named the new subdivision after the farm. :mad3:

The house I rented was originally the kitchen for the main farm house, was built in 1810 I think. They added on to it at some point so most of the house was new, but the original part was a 16x16 or so room with a massive fireplace, all original 1800s brick with a giant rough sawn 18" thick oak mantle over the fireplace, hand cut rafters still exposed in the drywall they put up in the ceiling. Upstairs was finished A-frame attic I used for my bedroom. That place was fucking awesome.

That is an awesome score! If you want to get rid of that Cigar Store Indian I'd love to have my wife roll her eyes at it. :grinpimp: The sun room(s) are pretty sweet. Did you ever find out what was in the carboys by the corner bar?

Cool spot, I dig the style they redid the houses in.

I can't imagine the amount of money I would need to be okay with just up and leaving so much stuff behind when I move. I do alright and I'm still taking the light bulbs with me :flipoff2:

Wine. Lots of wine. Made from the grapes grown on the property. He said it wasn't too bad. I'm sure it will be sampled at some point soon. 🤣

There's 10 of these things.....so 30-40 gallons?

Surprisingly the indians don't sell for that much. I'm still hoping he's an old one, but I'm leaning toward reproduction. There are a bunch on etsy and ebay in teh $1200-2000 range.

So the PO was a taxidermist in one of his past lives. I think I counted at least a dozen "head" mounts around the place - including a sheep and a boar. There's probably at least a dozen fish too.

I found a giant box of antlers and horns in the shop last night

Awesome place. I love the second smaller house. That thing is bad ass.

Good show B!

I can see why you jumped on that. The shop alone would have caught my attention. Nice that it is so close to your current house.

PM me if you need an extra set of hands. I'd be glad to help.

Ok you live on your property and play a retired British Army officer and regale us with tales of your Korean War exploits. That way you can hide your money and the fact you got it by writing gushy romance novels.

I will live in the 'little house' to monitor perimeter security and test-drive your Ferrari.

Some of those mounts are worth some money. I’m betting you could sell the larger whitetail and mule deer easily.

Most of them will be sold. I'm not in to hunting and couldn't really care about the mounts. I've looked around at what they sell for on ebay and was pleasantly surprised.

I need to look at the moose antlers over the fireplace. He said something about them being "Alaska record" antlers. Not sure what that means. They're probably labeled though.

I saw the vineyard in one of the earlier pics. Out the sunroom I think. They look like Concord grapes. If so, they're delicious and make some knock your socks off wine. Those carboys are probably 5 gallon versions, but they make 6 and 6.5 gallon versions. Those are more for beer and allow space for the krausen.

Have you considered having an “estate” sale before you move in?

What kind of sheep? There are some animals that I think you will need a license to sell. I’m almost certain you can’t sell duck mounts.
