Big boy

When we went to Black Hills SD in '21 we rode a steam train up there.. I don't remember the town to town but it was oil fired.. Damn thing stunk from the unburnt oil in the smoke. It was cool for about 10 minutes then i was bored. lol

I'm not specifically a train guy, but I love big old iron of any sort. I think I'm going to have to check it out while it's in Roseville, this is cool as hell.

It was the same for me. Dad had a biddy that was big into trains, but it was never really my thing. Heard it was coming in town and made a point to see it. It was f ing awesome. :smokin: When it came around again. The wife and I were both off of work and I drug her out to where it was. She loved it. Truly awesome to see in person.

When it came through last year it was 107* outside and we decided not to go see it. I'm excited it's coming back and in April when it hopefully won't be stupid hot.

Came up on FB this morning

I am going to try and find a nice scenic stretch of track to capture some HD video. Looking for suggestions for the state of Nevada.

I was big into model RR up until I discovered gas engines (mini bikes and go karts) when I turned 14. But I still love watching trains.

When big boy rolled through lower southeast Missouri, I caught up with it across the Mississippi River in Illinois. It is very very impressive. I got to watch it rolling on the coals or actually, oil burning.

Only way I can describe it as this, extreme rolling mechanical controlled violence.

I really need to take the kids down to Cheyenne for when they have their tour week for the steamworks and roundhouse.
They only do it once a year.

Anyone planning on hitting the nor cal stage?
Besides you Eric :flipoff2:

Here in a week, hoping to have the boat ready to take my Dad for a ride or two. Weather is still hit or miss. The lake is only 10 mins. to Colfax.

Damn that's cool.

I did get to see this at the American History Museum..quite i.pressive up close.

Ok, yeah pretty damn rad. And old Roseville was absolutely packed, I was a bit surprised with the weather. But there had to be thousands of people, every parking spot full within a big radius of the train yard.

P.S. - fawk parking garages that give you an 8’ 2” roof warning at ground level, then give you a 6’ roof warning on the second level when you’re already ramping up in traffic :flipoff2: :lmao:

Some of those rivets are insane, the heads on some had to be close to 3” diameter
