I'm about to be driving regularly between Memphis and the coast of South Carolina, about 20hrs round trip once a month.
I would like to do this in something comfortable and I've narrowed it down to these. Looking at 2015-2018s
I have no real experience with either and the internet reviews I've read has them close enough it doesn't seem to matter.
The S8 and FSport versions aren't exactly what I'm looking for but I'm not opposed to either compared to their non-sporty brethren.
What say IBBCC?

My 01 clk55 is a blast to drive. Bought a 76k mile car from original owner for 7k and drive round trips of 1100 miles regularly and have close to 125k on it since on of '19. Its had a few oddball things but overall for a 23 yo car its way better than any lexus or audi.

Audi will likely gift you with electrical gremlins, drivetrain should be solid.

Lexus is likely a sofa on the road, which is what you want.

3rd choice I would say pick up a used Toyota Avalon, likely will run forever with just a general maintenance...

Lexus or an Avalon like like gtrplyr said. We have a Camry XSE v6 which is a nice road trip machine, so don't discount that either.

Chevy SS. :flipoff2:

You really need a full size car to do that trip? Either way, no go on anything german for that, go Lexus for sure. You could probably get away with an ES or even an IS for a lot less, or find an NX or RX if you want more space at a lower price than an LS. Heck, even a Camry or Avalon would do the trip just fine for a lot less too.

But Aloine4x4 :lmao:

FUCK

Corrected Alpine three fucking times and closed the X auto correct window.

ALPINE4X4

He went on down Lombard Street about how crappy newer Hyundais are and how awesome and reliable trouble free Audis are.

:lmao:

Memphis to anywhere east means i40.

I40 means potholes and cops.

Potholes and cops means pickup- preferably a prerunner - not sports car.

Where are you going in SC where you'd take 40 from Memphis?

When it comes to Out of warranty luxury cars, there’s absolutely no question that you’d rather own the Lexus than an Audi.
Buuuuuttt Toyota/ Lexus tech/ infotainment was pretty terrible in the mid 2000’s- early 2010’s so that bears consideration- I have no experience with that particular vintage of the LS, but I’d certainly want to take a long test drive and try out the adaptive cruise, Bluetooth interface etc.

the 2014+ Avalon became just a stretch Camry and suspension is too stiff to be in the same leagues of comfort as the prior generations which served as v6 powered 30 mpg ls alternatives.

My w220 Benz s500 was the best cruiser I’ve ever had; ate up the highway at triple digit speeds effortlessly like it was 60mph- mine had the first adaptive cruise to hit the market which was pretty primitive but functioned reasonably well for something 20 yrs old- the subsequent generations got much better so I’d be looking for at least a w221 with low miles/ dealer serviced cream puff.

Another option to consider might be a 21+ Tahoe/ Denali/ Escalade; irs really transforms the handling versus previous generations. the z71 suburban I rented in Montana was incredibly smooth on the interstate in the hills at 90mph in a crosswind even wearing snow tires and mpg of the short wheelbase models will be in the ballpark with the vehicles you’re looking at. However I haven’t used the adaptive cruise in these since my rental didn’t have it.
