I'm not an Apple guy, need advice from Apple folks. And even those who are PC based may see which is a cleqar winner.

About to go in and get one of these in two hours time.

Use: Shared Macbook, bewteen two of us here.
My 15yr old daughter for school.
Me for running Xcode 11 - That's all for me.

It's 6am in the morning here, and Apple's choice here has me stumped :homer: I'm not ringing up friends now

I've highlighted me confusions below.

They both have rthe new keyboard, only the Pro has that Touchbar thingy, is that useful?

Oh, they're both the same price.

PS. isn't wasn't me who posted up Apple FanBoi hate threads on the old Myspace, I mean PBB site, in the old days, ok

Thanks internet friends, and I couldn't quickly vertically set up the info tables parent/child crap above, sorry.

I run an old Macbook Pro

Both my kids had Airs through their school

Glancing at your specs, I'm not seeing a significant difference except half the storage on the Pro

The air has the 10th gen processor,
the pro the old 8th gen.

and the ports are different, I don't know what's handier on Macs

That's why i'm bit confused

I'm supposed to be driving to work, gotta go, any help appreciated

but both are quadcore and it looks like the pro is actually faster

A lot of the latest gen Mac's have their ssds soldered in making the internal storage un-upgradable. Just been over this with a neighbor who's a DJ wanted more storage space in his new 16" pro. £3,000 and you can't even upgrade the HDD? I spent a third of that on my new 17" laptop which has more grunt, an actual Nvidia GPU, a dual SSD/HDD and is actually upgradable. Fuck Apple and their proprietary un-upgradable junk :mad3:

To answer your question I'd take the air over the pro given those specs.

The guys at work are set up, they'll be fine without me first thing this morning, so I'm back.

$2279 for pro with 512g SSD

Maxing out at $1999 here

It's the next gen processor being on the Air, yet it's slower, that has me  as a choice to make.

I forgot to say, I want to use AutoCAD on it every now and then. I'm assuming that will be a shit experience overall.

The below might help see the diffs clearer

We have three good PC laptops here, that mostly do everyrthing I've ever needed them to, and one good desktop that i had made for gaming. All ssd'ed for the win, and easily reconfigurable

I am trying really really hard to supress my Apple..umm..ahhh...thoughts

I've only just confided in one close friend, that I'm about to actually buy a Macbook. He thinks it's hilarious. But all my friends and family here, except 2, have iPhones and ios stuff, so I can't share any apps with them unless I get an Apple machine. I don't have time for making up a hackintosh or sign up for online cloud ios Xcode programming scenarios (which from memory is a thing you can do with Apple also).

2 things that as a user you'll benefit from more than a slightly higher base processor speed are the ddr4 ram and bigger storage both will have a larger positive impact on your user experience.

Thanks.

I'm still perplexed. $1997 perplexed. It started out as the intro spec Air, until I stepped in and said, "For a little bit more..."

Friday early here. Hard week and I'm a bit mentally fried

It's a bitter pill to swallow.....
Just out of interest what do you need a Mac for? I've not come across a Mac file I can't open on windows but I have come across file formats a Mac won't touch but no issues with a PC.
Maybe a cheap refurbed iPad would be enough apple functionality without breaking the bank?

My wife and my son have Airs, I'm on my 4th pro, the latest being a 2020. I despise that F'n bar, I just want my F keys to be there.

Most of the time I have the lid closed, using their 'Magic' keyboard, and it's hooked up to two thunderbolt displays... which is my only other complaint. It seems to go full ReRe when unplugging displays. Like it doesn't know what to do for a minute. My last one (2018) would instantly adjust .....

but to answer your question ....I'll give you the same answer I give most people .... buy whats at the top of your budget so it lasts longer.

the problem I have with my mac and running a display is that the mac get so damn hot that some shit comes on and starts slowing down processing because it's hot from running the display

I have a 13" pro purchased in 2015 for $1300 or so. If by touchbar thingy you mean the track pad thingy, it's awesome! It has so many shortcuts I tossed my mouse in the junk drawer. This was my first Mac but I'm happy and will buy another.

I dabble in app making. Only been making Android apps for myself. Now I want to make ios apps, and share with friends and family.

The kicker is...
I know you won't believe Apple would do something like this, but to make an ios app, you can only use Apple's Xcode software, and you can only run Xcode on an Apple operating system.

There are work arounds, it can be done on a pc. Look up hackintosh. I can't be bothered, and my daughter wants a Macbook to use at school.

Yea, I don’t have that problem.......

OMG wtf?

You just saved me a world of pain.

See, I never even looked close enough to see they delete the F keys to put that bar there.

Ahhh man. That's absolutely the deal breaker there. Fuck me.

Thank you thank you thank you

no, it's not the trackpad. there is a touchscreen bar above the numbers

You can get them to pop up, but it's an extra step .... some apps put other buttons there for 'convenience'. I just want them there 100% of the time.... there may be a way but I haven't bothered looking.

Yea, I don’t have that problem.......

Wow 2 $1000 Apple monitor stands :grinpimp:

Impressive

You deserve my $20 red skull donation purely from mentioning the missing F key row on the Pro.

Feel the love

We had a major incident this morning

Took time off to go with the girls to go get the last one they had. This one ---->>> http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/o...rey-mba20512sg

The missus delayed her start time also.

Drove in, went and saw the guy who put it aside for me.

Grabbed it.

Went to the counter...

Missus got out her interest free card...

:nuke::homer::nuke::homer::nuke:

She locked up, blank stare. Can't remember her damn pin. It's been a long time.

I left my wallet in my van back home.

I can't remember my bank logins for my phone. It's been a looong time since I've needed them.

Had to go home, minus macbook, to sort it out. But then we both really had to go back to work, even though both self employed, re-meeting there later today.

15yr old daughter is shattered she has to wait a few more hours. Seriously not happy :crybaby2::crybaby2::crybaby2:
