Didn’t the snail trail host Tyler go through this in his build thread?
And given that most 14b are more narrow than the sd60, you could easily run a wheel adapter in the rear. If you ever need to run a 8x6.5 wheel to get off the trail, just take off one adapter and bolt it in the back. The annoying part is you also have to drill your rotors. Granted they're hub centric so you can be a little sloppy there, but it sucks having to drill consumables like that, because if it's a rig that gets street miles too their lifetime might be counted in less than decades haha. And TBH the 8x170 is becoming more and more relevant as so many more super duty axles find their way under rigs. Personally, if you're set on pairing a 14b with a super duty front I think drilling the 14b hubs and rotors for the metric pattern are the better route. Hubs shouldn't really become a consumable, and rear rotors should just about last the lifetime of the rig
That’s right, I kinda forgot about that aspect. The wider 14b’s are like 67” wide right? Vs 71”+ of the front 05+ axle, 1.5” or 2” spacers would bring the widths right into the same ballparkAnd given that most 14b are more narrow than the sd60, you could easily run a wheel adapter in the rear. Nice! I didn’t know about those super wide ones, more good info. Was there a 63” 14b along the way? Same housing as the 67”, but hubs with narrower wms or something along those lines? (Sorry for the hijack)There are 72" wide 14 bolts in the newer trucks / C&C express vans.
Standard width 14 bolts are 67/67.5" indeed.
Older ones are 67". I've got a 14B out of a 2007 HD Chevy that is ~70" WMF to WMF with discs. That’s right, I kinda forgot about that aspect. The wider 14b’s are like 67” wide right? Vs 71”+ of the front 05+ axle, 1.5” or 2” spacers would bring the widths right into the same ballpark
Please don't ever apologize for 'thread drift' in one of my threads.....normal human conversation drifts from topic to topic naturally. I don't see a problem with it. We're all adults and should be able to filter info.Nice! I didn’t know about those super wide ones, more good info. Was there a 63” 14b along the way? 71"? Hmm...was just reading about the "Super 60" at Mototrend (not that those guys are known for getting anything offroad related correct)...they said 69.8" for an F350. The 450 & 550 are almost 85" wide but I'm assuming that's due to the DRW flanges. That’s right, I kinda forgot about that aspect. The wider 14b’s are like 67” wide right? Yeah, I run a cab and chassis 14 bolt, its 63" wms-wms its just the hubsNice! I didn’t know about those super wide ones, more good info. Was there a 63” 14b along the way? Same housing as the 67”, but hubs with narrower wms or something along those lines? (Sorry for the hijack)
Everything I'm reading says 72"....other than that Motortrend article.Haha fair, I just try not to distract too much from the topic at hand, at least not too frequently
It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure they're somewhere in the 71"-71.5"-72" wide range for the F250-F350 05+ axles
This thread has all sorts of info on them, but almost more discussion than you can filter through hah. The first post has a good collection of info, but it's imperfect as well, as IIRC the wall thickness is like .372" vs the 1/2" stated there
