From personal experience most jail suicides are from hangings, bleeding out from puncturing/cutting is 2nd, jumping from the top tier to the soft and forgiving concrete below is 3rd.

Book was written in the 90s Bider Manhof was in Germany in the 60s and 70s so that would made her in her late 40sm maybe early 50s having lived a rough life dodging the police
