Once a year a subcontractor for SMUD (local electric utility) comes out to clear around the base of our poles that have transformers on them. They come in clearly marked vehicles, and visible ID’s. They always call ahead, and set an appointment. They never just show up.

If someone hasn't already said it, they are measuring to see if there is room on the pole to rent space, The utility does not own the whole pole, they rent or sell sections of it.

Suddenlink is looking to see if there is room for them to rent a section for communications.

I would make it hard on them, show ID, paperwork, a decent phone # before I'd give any access no matter what they threaten.

Some dude pulled over beside our shop the other day and started walking down our driveway. I walked out of the shop and said "Hey what's up?" He said "just checking the trees, that's all I'm doing, checking the trees." Then he left.

I saw him a couple of days later, marking trees under the utilities to be trimmed .

It's like the surveyors that wave county docs in your face as you are asking then WTF are you doing on my property. Fine, stay here but sorry about your truck getting impounded. Maybe next time don't come at me so aggressive.

We have a few LDS peeps that make the rounds. Funny they don't talk religion; Dad likes to talk to them and chews their ears off. But they stay on the porch!
