So a couple guys show up at my gate and ring the bell. I go out there and they say they work for “Suddenlink” and they are surveying wires. They want access to my property to measure and take pics. I have my property fenced with beware of dogs signs. These guys are ware ing bright orange jackets like road workers and they have a long measuring pole.

I let them in and called Suddenlink to verify. That just puts me to a long answering machine. I go back out there and ask for ID. They say it’s back in there car which is parked way down the road. Hmmmm.

I told them to get out and I called the cops. Just saw the sheriff drive by.

To be continued.

He ded?

Around here overhead lines are inspected by helichopper, not by some idiot walking around with a measuring stick.

And what is there to "survey" about a power line? They've already been installed.

Might be a good idea to be employed by a company that isn't defunct as well.
Meh, if they go far enough to forge a work order for your property, it's probably worth letting 'em on the property . . .

. . . then subduing & dragging them to the rape cellar to start ripping out toenails until they tell you what they're up to

Suddenlink is a telecom company that also does local fiber. They have fuck all to do with power lines. And nobody is going to survey a new fiber install from the air. Since the OP gave us so much detail, there's no way to tell exactly what happened here.

They're likely just out measuring existing infrastructure for new fiber service in his neighborhood.
Maybe he has a public utility easement going though his property and they needed to measure existing lines and poles to make sure they have clearance over his driveway when they put up a new overhead line on existing poles. Or maybe they have an existing network out there and they're surveying for an upcoming upgrade project.

And chances are they're a subcontractor doing the design survey and don't actually work directly for Suddenlink.

Except for this.

Except for this.
I know Wikipedia is the absolute last word on all things, but I also know they were still using the Suddenlink name well after 8/22 and there's still plenty of infrastructure out there bearing their name so I'm fully torn on what to believe at this point. Maybe they were out surveying all the old suddenlink assets and getting ready to put new optimum stickers on them?

Don't be fucking around in NC! We'll shoot your fucking ass! :lmao:

This was here in western NC recently. This guy was just squirrel shit crazy though.

Except for this.

I looked it up and they were acquired by Optima. The guy said that they were looking to instal fiber optic cables here. He had a fancy map on his phone of all the telephone poles in the area. But it could be I could find that map on the net if I searched enough. No report from the cops. Probably was legit. They couldn’t really get any pics that they couldn’t get from the street. Didn’t have my garage open.

Yeahhh . . . I'mm'a need
 • to see company photo ID State ID with their proper personal home address on it
 • and a work order for my property
 • and proof of Workers Comp insurance
and
 • have a utility easement on my property
or
 • off is the direction in which they can fuck :flipoff2:
FIFY

We had some people come by surveying for fibre this past week. They did it all from the road, had fancy laser range finder etc... We don't have cable, don't have internet, just old broken phone lines that work sort of. only 13 houses or so on a 10+ mile dirt road. some reason i doubt it will happen any time soon.

Doubt I will give up our stalink if we get fibre. They will definitely do what the tyrant in government wants. I trust Musk to keep my info flowing more than my government at this point.

They're getting massive gov't grants to get 100% availability to certain rural areas. They ran miles of cable to serve my area to probably only add 2-3 dozen customers.
