AC compressor to onboard air?

Are the AC compressors on 80's-90's era Fords suitable for conversion to air compressor?
Got a 97 Explorer Sport being used as a cheap beginner wheeling rig for my daughter. She already put it over on its top and busted out the windshield. I was going to pull the AC components out now to shed a few pounds but it would be nice to have a compressed air source in our group and this is a perfect opportunity if the compressor would be usable for it.

Follow the same steps you would to convert a Sanden compressor on an XJ.

Use the original output line to soak up the heat. Connect the 2 wires on the ac pressure switch and use the button on the dash.

Give the compressor a squirt of oil occasionally.

THey work, they are not great and I only seem to get a few years out of them, but it you own it already and you gave up on having AC, they work.
