This question is for the Ford crowd. I feel y'all might be able to shed more insight as I can't find anything on Jeep sites.

My 2009 Jeep JKU (3.8L crap minivan) has an ABS module produced in Mexico.

Here's what the 09 Jeep module looks like:

While junkyarding here in CO, where Wranglers don't exist in yards, I stumbled upon something.

This is an ABS module for a 2012 Ford Fiesta:

Mexico produces a lot of parts. It's not surprising that products would be used between brands.

The general consensus among the Jeep crowd is that you have to purchase an ABS control module from the exact same year, make, model, and engine, replace it, and then you have to get it flashed so the VIN matches. I understand. I haven't seen a single post anywhere across many websites and Google searches for interchangeability.

Since this is clearly the same module, same circuits, same everything, can it be reflashed for any vehicle that uses the same style?

I snagged two of these modules from the junkyard. One from the '12 Fiesta and I don't even remember the other vehicle. I think it was a different make as well.

Figured I'd ask here before wasting my money in case someone had far more indepth knowledge. My experience is that dealerships are very black and white will immediately say no without thinking. I'm very tempted to just put in the Fiesta module and try to get it flashed without mentioning it's "host", but I'm sure some of you are brilliant and can tell me why it's dumb and a waste of money.

Thanks for your time and reading.

It might work, it might not.

Just because the case is the same doesn't mean the internal electronic stuff is the same. If the electronics support whatever you're trying to flash onto them then you'll likely be fine.

Pinout might be different too but that's not an insurmountable problem.

You're gonna have to do more research.

Really appreciate the response.

Fair.

I'll start looking for schematics, etc. Are you aware of any repositories or catalogs online you could direct me to? I'll of course search, but any advantage would be great.

What's the significance of the coil colors? Those aren't the same between the two.

Google lens brings up that same module with different solenoid color layouts for just about every major car mfg including euro, so I'm going to say there's about a 0% chance of them being compatible.

Perhaps the image is incorrect, but the physical modules are identical here on my desk.

I believe alldata has wiring diagrams. I've seen it referenced, but never paid for it to see how good they are. A pin by pin comparison would be the first and easiest way to see if everything is in the same place.

There's only a handful of ABS module suppliers. To save on costs they create a new product and try to sell it to as many companies as they can. The suppliers would love 100% common part that they could just differentiate by loading different software; but that's doubtful given how OEMs want specializations.

If you are lucky, and the parts are the same besides the software, now you would have to figure out how to get the Ford part flashed with Jeep software.

I can get a same year and make module for $120-500 depending on where I look. I think the experiment would be helpful to others, so perhaps the cost of a flash to see if it works might be worth it. If not, I'm only out the cost of a flash, which I think is sub $200 depending on where you go.
