My brother is an attorney. I own an auto repair shop. We have a constantly changing number that one owes the other for legal fees and car repairs. So I guess we have each other on retainer.
But for most, a retainer is basically a down payment you give your lawyer to get started. So if you don’t have an upcoming case, you may as well hold onto your $$. Unless you want to sound cool.
Way back in the day... I worked with a former MSFT employee. Their legal plan - at the time - covered divorce. Apparently, hers was very ugly and took about a year... cost her somethng like $6-8/month...
