You used common courtesy while talking about law enforcement. They afford you zero, why would you afford them any? They arent your friend or there to help. If they need you they’ll do it by mail or come detain you.

If they do have a warrant, verbally invoke your 5th amendment rights, tell them you want to speak to an attorney, and then shut the fuck up until you talk to that attorney and even then, don't say shit unless your attorney tells you to.
 
Mormans and other religious folks have good intentions. They think they are doing the lord's work. Maybe they are, I don't know. I do know I don't really like visitors who show up without prior notice, but I'm civilized enough to be polite. I have a doorbell camera. When someone I don't know rings the bell, I will answer or not depending upon my mood. If there was a uniformed officer at the door, I would probably answer it in person to see what was going on. It's probably one of my buddies, or lately their kids, stopping by to visit.

Check your individual state laws. In Arizona, it is a class 3 misdemeanor ("Criminal Trespass") to remain on a property after being asked to leave by the property "owner or any other person having lawful control over such property" (renter). Better to have a fenced in yard, that increases it to a class 1 misdemeanor. If they try to force their way into your residence it becomes a class 6 felony.

But the reality is "the State" isn't going to prosecute some dumb Fed who oversteps his authority. About the most you could hope for is them being escorted off the property by the local PD/Sherrif (depending on where you are). And now you're probably on some secret Fed shit list to be screwed with every possible opportunity.

Correction: don't say shit even if your attorney tells you to. And if your attorney tells you to say something, get a new attorney.

As others have said...no one ends up at my front door on accident. I live on a cul-de-sac, last drive on the road, about 1,000 from that road. We have one neighbor that shares our drive and we get along with them great.

Plus, I'm anti-social, so it's not like I have a ton of people coming to visit.

my wife is becoming red pilled. she was pissed and scared. "what if they do that to me?" I would be in jail if he/they did that to her.

WTF on the headlight when it wasn't even dark.

I don't realistically expect them to prosecute, but I do hope that's at least enough for local LEO to show up as a 3rd party and at least step on some toes or get them off my property. Whether or not that's worth it depends highly on the area, but generally the city police here are pretty honest and not out to fuck every day people over.

No shit, had a podunk town cop pull me over for a burnt out DRL in my works van, took a good 20 minutes before the fucker came back to the van to give me my liscense back and give me a warning. Bright sunny summer day. Thanks.

Lesson learned from that, even in daytime a burnt out headlight is reason enough for them to pester you, I don't want to hate on the cops, usually in this area they are pretty chill, but damn it, sitting at the side of the road bugging somebody about a burnt out drl is hardly efficient use of anybody's time, coulda stopped to just tell me the headlight is burnt out and sent me on my way, but no, had to be a fishing expedition.

It's always a pre text for further investigation.

Last time I got pulled over was "failure to use a signal"
It was 1am and he was looking for drunks and I happened to be the only car on the road.
I was hoping he'd write me the ticket so I could go to court with my dash cam video and call him a liar in front of a judge, but he obviously knew it was bullshit and "gave me a break". Like he was doing me a favor not writing me a ticket for something that never happened.

On retainer, no. Have a decent atty I'm on a 1st name basis with and a roll of bills with a rubber band around it for when the need arises.

I grew up with a respect for the law and the system, but dealing with divorce, false allegations, ex parte restraining orders, and a system with a thumb on the scale against white men, fuckem, I've got a backup plan.

In a just world I shouldn't have to, but I do, and I sleep like a baby.

Edit: just to clarify, I'm far from baller, but after getting fucked over by the system, when I rebuilt my life, I vowed I wasn't going to get fucked again, and earmarked the funds for that purpose. At one point while getting grief from my money hungry baby mama's little brother over money he thought I owed her, I responded "how much for the white baby!?" "How many money's?!" And meant it:laughing:

In my Chevy I have my DRL disabled for this exact reason. I want to manually turn my lights on and off so I can know exactly what the situation is when I get popped like that. I see a lot of newer cars running in the morning with DTRL but not a single tail light on and that’s just a field day for an early morning search.
 
Canadian vehicle, you can only turn off the drl's when the vehicle is in park. No override when in gear, and since its a work truck I can't disable them without potentially raising the ire of somebody or as someone pointed out to me, if another coworker took my truck and got in an accident theres fodder for disabling a "safety" device depending on cicumstances. I liked it better when I could put on the parking brake a click and turn off the stupid things.
My own vehicles that have drl's they are permanently disabled (they are not a requirement here in Canada except when 1.first sold, or 2.during an import inspection. Don't even need working drl's when selling it used for the safety inspection).
 
A local police department says that traffic stops for equipment violations are a "valid law enforcement tool." They fought against Ohio going to one license plate required but didn't get very far.
 
You guys are a little negative. It depends on what they are there for. You may want to help cops if it’s about a break in down the street. But I will say federal agents are a particular problem because it’s against the law to lie to them. The problem with that is the truth can be interpreted to be a lie. I’m not saying you will end up in jail for telling the truth, but they could conceivably get a warrant because you were interpreted to have lied. Once they have a warrant, it opens up a bag of tricks they can use against you.

I had a lawyer friend and I discussed this topic. He basically said “if they are questioning you as a suspect, don’t talk”. If they are questioning you as a witness, you can cautiously tell the truth. The other thing he said I thought was funny. If they read your rights, you are a suspect. If they tell you they routinely read everyone there rights, you are they’re main suspect.

I got pulled over a week ago. Was told to pick up a kid after my Friday night sparring. So it’s 10pm on a Friday and I’m trying to find this kids house in town. You cannot see the house numbers because they are all on the house with no lights on. The street signs were all but hidden as well.

Well evidently I looked like a drunk because I was slowing down past each house pulled into the wrong drive way and had to go one house back. Cop lit me up in the driveway of the house I was picking my kid up.

He was an absolute dick. Thought I was drunk, didn’t believe me I was there to pick up a kid. He made me get the my kid out of the house to make sure I wasn’t lying. Ended up giving me a warning for no insurance slip in the car. I had my wife text it to me after he asked.

The friends dad was peeking out the window like wtf is going on. When I went up to the door to get my boy he just laughed when I told him he thought I was a drunk driver.

Basically every interaction I've ever had with cops goes about the same. Fuck them.
 
Oh my turn signal guy was nice and polite.

Still doesn't change the fact that I got stopped, id'd and made to sit for ten minutes on the side of the road within sight of my house for no good reason other than driving home late at night.

The other classic thing the town cops do is pull you over for an improperly displayed tag. They'll claim they thought it was loose.
Anything they can say to have the interaction.
