9' Uhaul van road trip

I live in Roseburg and love it but its not for everyone. The town isnt impressive but def picking up. Im outside town on acerage and its a pretty conservative county overall. Conservative commissioners help. Tons to do and explore. Wages arent great and a bit of a locals mentality but i think it helps weed out the weak.

Iv visiting on your route, def cruise as much coast as you can. Bandon is cool, crazy norweigan in port orford is great as said above. Gold beach is nice but tiny. Florence gets eugene visitors so its becoming hipster. My buddy lived east of eugene on the mckenzie and loved it but eugene is kinda shitty.

Around here, head up 138 towards crater lake. Diamond lake is cool. Millions of fire roads and turnouts to hit the river. Heading up little river road is cool for the same reasons. Up around umpqua theres a lot to explore. Tons of public land and water all over.

As far as where to live, its tough to get a job in so oregon without living here because its more oldschool with no zoom interviews and because housing can be tough to find (even when buying at times) and folks feel like if you havent lived here you prob wont cut it and stay.

Id live in gold beach, bandon, charleston area of coos bay, elkton, glide, roseburg country area, umpqua/ tyee. Grants pass could be cool on the river but medford is shitty and that valley fills with smoke every summer.

Hit me up with any questions. Been up here 3yrs and work for the county so i cover the area pretty well.

this is legit advise
nice area

Soon as the right property comes up for sale, I'll be over in the GP area somewhere. Way more laid back compared to jackson county

Why ? am i missing something ?
Theres nothing in the terms of service about mileage or geographical limits. The rental for 12 days @ 1000 miles is < 900.00 and I won't even do 600 miles
Perhaps if you're retuning it where you got it.

Anytime you travel with em they get ya at the destination.

Call and ask about the "unlimited miles daily rate". They don't advertise it. Tell them you need a box truck for a week to move a library worth of books or some shit. You might have to upgrade to the 10ft wonton chevy van to get it though. They're weird about the half ton trucks and panel vans because those are leased and need to be kept nice to turn over every year.

I did, I got a commercial rate because of the length of the rental. I couldn't do an on line rental I had to call them because of the number of days.
Its funny, they advertise them as "Can fit a queen mattress" so it must be pretty common

Thanks though

Of course it costs money, wtf ? :lmao:

Its considered a local rental, usage is irrelevant.
They charge mileage here.

I rented one last summer for 3, maybe 4 days. Made 4 trips, roughly 125 miles. Cost me over $500.

And also wanted to charge for fuel. They rent them at like 1/2 a tank so it's a guessing game. The old timer there said most of the time people just fill it up and the shop guy suck it out to half so they end up with $50 of free fuel.

When I said usage is irrelevent, I wasn't saying they don't charge mileage, they do. Its cheaper than normal though because of the length of the rental.
The normal rate per mile here is .89

It was something closer to $2/mile for my rental.

I remember doing a WTF because it was a last minute "by the way" I didn't know about. I had ASS umed "local rate" was x $$ per day, like a rental car.

Got to Florence on the 2nd, in Winston tonight and tomorrow. Then headed to Ashland for a couple nights. This gets pretty good mpg, drives like an empty van. Total cost will be <700 including milage.
Weather is perfect, cools off at night and no humidity so we're in heaven
