What's new

6ARC

Berger 105 target. Have 105 hybrids on BO, but they're unicorn farts these days, so I'll use up the 300 I have and hopefully the same load will work with the Hybrids.

Have a couple thou 109 Hybrids, but am keeping those for the 6GT bolt gun.
They send out the 105 Hybrids, and probably others, in batches. The two local guys I buy from just got their latest allotment this week. I was on the waiting list so I got a box yesterday. I think the last time they had some was 2-3 months ago. I would say if you are looking for them, you need to be looking now.

Been looking for 6 months, asked all my local connections and finally put in a BO with Optics planet. Most places won't even let you do that. Found one place that had 3 500ct boxes, but by the time I got my CC info in, they were gone.

I've got other guns to shoot, I'll just wait till they come in stock at Grafs and stock up then.

I've had very little luck with online places. I've had the same luck as you, by the time I get my CC info in they are gone.

Do you think the 105's could get over 2700 with a different powder?

Maybe, but Lever seems to be up near the top. Maybe CFE or Varmint Power Pro (what I use in 77g .223)

Well loaded up 5ea 28.6, 28.7, 28.8, 28.9, and 29.0. Kinda funny how much the top and bottom loads fell apart. With 28.9 got 2624fps, SD of 5.2 and ES of 9fps, that's pretty good for a gas gun, in my book. Gonna load up the rest of the 105 Tgt bullets with 28.9, and hopefully those will last until my 105 Hybrids come in.

So apparently I put in a BO with euro optic back in April and forgot all about it. A couple days ago I got a notice on my door that USPS tried to deliver a signature required package. I started giving my GF a hard time about ordering something that was being delivered signature required because she is always ordering crap online. Yesterday she worked from home and was able to sign for the package. Then I get a picture of 5 100ct boxes of 105's.

It was 5 months and a few days from BO to delivered.

Hope it's faster than that for me. I'm trying to keep the 109's for the GT, and thinking that the 105's are a little shorter and a little lighter would be better for the ARC. I really don't want to develop an ARC load for the 109's, so if I run out of 105's I'll probably go back to .223 for the AR matches and let the ARC sit till they come in.

Switched out some stuff. Went back to a traditional upper receiver as the Send-It and side charger wanted to occupy the same'ish space. Put a Viper PST Gen II on it with a 20moa Warne mount, and got a Sgt of Arms handguard with integrated ARCA rail. The old handguard was just a CH too small and the gas block was touching, now it's fully free float.

What do you think of the Warne mount? A buddy of mine is looking for a mount for a 6.5 Creed AR10 build.

Also if anyone is looking for a Gen 2 PST, Midway has them on clearance right now.

Anybody found more bolt guns chambered for this cartridge? Been looking at it for a kid’s hunting round, seems ideal. Already bought dies for it and 120 rounds of 6.5 Grendel brass, and 700 bullets.

Not a huge fan of Savage even though I know the are accurate.

Had been hoping Howa would chamber the mini action in these, but I called them yesterday and the lady said she wasn‘t aware of anything new. I asked in code if there was anything coming for shot show thst she wasn’t able to talk about in detail, no again.

I’ve seen the prefit barrels for them but it costs the same as the whole rifle.

They're kind of my go-to for AR scopes. 20MOA built in, and use 1/2" nuts not thumb screws.

Do you know anyone shooting the 6mm AR turbo or the 6mm Fat Rat? I’ve got a lower I would like to run a 6mm with but trying to decide if I want to bother going after a little more speed.

I haven’t bothered calling and asking if 6mm ARC ammo can be fire formed yet. It seems Hornady took the original 6mm AR and downsized it slightly so the wildcat is kind of pointless unless going after the extra case capacity of the improved versions.

I haven't seen anyone shooting either one of those rounds.

In our bolt gun matches there's all kinds of 6mm variants, BR, BRA, Creedmoor, Dasher, etc, one guy that wins pretty often has a .224 Valkyrie in a bolt gun and it's a laser.

6ARC can be fire formed from a few different parent cases, I think the most common is 6.5 Grendel.

Yeah, just run it through an ARC bushing die and finish the neck off with a mandrel and trim the excess. I've done a few that way, and ruined a couple as well.

Sorry I didn’t state that well. I meant using the ARC as a base cartridge and fire forming it into a 6 AR Turbo or 6mm Fat Rat. If so that would still give a factory round option in a pinch.

All three are based off the Grendel which I think came from the 220 Russian.

Yes. 220 russkie based

So far digging this round. Does way better in the wind.

I’ve been a 6mm fan for a long time. my bolt gun is a 243 ackley. I can hit shit I shouldn’t with it. So I figured a 6 in an AR platform would be another fun way to lose money.

Anyway, I guess I have some decisions. 6 ARC for the ease or do dumb again for the wildcat. Dumb = fun…..hmmmm.

Well just got notice that my 105's are shipping...only 8 months. I got some local so I'll have 1500 bullets and have 500 Lapua Grendel brass on the way from Midsouth. $1.15 for empty brass, I musta done lost my mind. I had to do something, the Hornady brass was just not holding up, split necks and loose primer pockets.

Loose primer pockets only happen if you lean on it, and split necks are what the annealer is for :flipoff2:

I know I'll never save enough on brass to pay for the Giraud annealer, but it's sure nice not losing any cases during or after fire-forming. Custom brass sucks but I'm a sucker for Ackley's.:homer:

What exactly is the wizardry with the Ackley stuff?

They make you super cool :flipoff2:

Depends on the cartridge. 243 AI is a laser, but at the cost of 1000 round barrel life. 280AI will land just shy of 7mm rem mag velocity. Again, uses more powder and barrel life than the standard 280.
In my 243 I'm burning 46grns of h1000 behind a 112 match burner to push them right around 3000. Guys are pushing the 108s to 33-3400, but it gets harder on brass and barrels.
The 6mm brx is only 2-300 fps slower with 10 grns less powder and a 3000+ round barrel life.

Some things are just fun, like a 250 Savage AI. Bump up the velocity a ton, but it's not as special now that 25 creed is easy enough.

I bought the hype and bought an AMP annealer.

I’ve heard of guys running 50 grains in .243. What exactly is the goal here? Bragging rights?

With the efficiency of modern boattail bullets, velocity isn't as important as it used to be. For me I'm looking for lowest SD and ES and tune for groups with a tuner brake.
