5.3 with VVT replacement

I'm told that stuff like PCM hammer and tunerpro have gotten to the point that HPtuners is a bit obsolete for common GM stuff, but I haven't tried it.

Do they have the support and community though? That's what lead me to HP tuners. It can do about everything, and there's someone to teach me if I look.

You forgot the $200 to tune the 6l80e. Very least it needs to be told to quit slipping the converter all the time.
Factory trans tune let's the converter slip 20-60rpm during lockup for "reducing harshness". Creates a ton of heat, and usually what wipes the converter.
I don't know what you're talking about. I have HPtuners and I unlocked both of my personal gmt900's with 5.3's and 6L80s for 2 credits, $100 per truck. I've played with the engine and transmission with that.
The 20-60rpm slip is not what takes out the converter on these. All trans in the last 25+ years have done that. What does it is the 400rpm slip they command when the original spark plugs start missing at around 200k.

My gmt400 & 800 only took 2 credits, my newer ones took 2 for the ecm and 4 for the TCM.

A lot of trans guys have "fixed" issues by eliminating the slip, and raising the converter lockup points.

Define "newer"

Funny, my 14 and 16 were both 6 total...
You evidently forgot to uncheck the FSM unlock option. It's useless for 99% of people, but HPT enables it by default. Got me once too on a customers job and cost me $50. Sneaky stunt by them, but "read the fine print".
