A lot of older posts (10-15 years old) all over the interweb on TSL SX chunking, and TSL SX radial vs Bias, and IROK vs TSL SX, etc... but can't find anything recent. I bought a set of 36" TSL SX Bias ply last year and I loved them for wheeling in the Southeast and then I went to South Dakota Black Hills and in 4 days of wheeling the outer lugs completely disappeared (not sidewall lugs, the outer lugs of the tread). I continued to run them and in dry rock they still perform great, but when I get into some mud or wet rock they are now useless. They are only a year old, so I recut to try and get a few more trips out of them, will see how that goes this weekend at Hawk Pride and next Weekend at Golden Mountain.

Anyway, time to get new tires and I am a little leery on buying another set of TSL SX Bias since the outer lugs basically disappeared in 4 days of wheeling; however, I LOVE how tough the sidewall is on these tires. My driving style typically results in sidewall damage, but with the TSL SX I had no issues (there is chucks of sidewall missing, but never had a leaks). Also Note: I siped these tire about 1/4" deep when I bought them, I did sipe the outer lugs that wore but the sipe was not close to the edges, just down the center.

My jeep sees very little road use, basically just between trails and from camp to trailheads. I am mostly wheeling in the South East and look for rock trails but in the SE in order to get to the rock you got to go through the mud. I do go out west a few times a year. In the past year I have wheeled at Hawk Pride, Windrock, SMORR, Green Acres, Ivy Branch, Good Evening Branch, Florence area of AZ, and Black Hills of SD. Next year I plan on the same, possibly adding in Moab or Northern California.

Right now, I am looking at the following in 36 "or 37" size on 17" beadlocks:
TSL SXs Bias again, but afraid of the fast wear in the dry rock but may be worth the fast wear due to the sidewall.
*TSL SX Radial
*IROK Bias or Radial (I have seen the 39.5" IROK bias in action at a very muddy Hawk Pride and also in dry rocks at Green Acres and was impressed, but not sure how the 36/37 compare).

*Any opinions on these tires as they compare to the TSL SX Bias? Both traction in Mud and Rock and on sidewall strength/durability.

Any other tire options (non-sticky) with decent sidewalls that I should consider?

Going from ~8 year old interco Ltbs to sticky maxxis tires was a huge improvement for me, I would check out the 37 treps

Hawk pride seems to fuck up tires. I think you are the first person I have read, outside of some of the AZ guys, who actually was impressed with how an IROK works:laughing:

I don't have much to add besides the non sticky sx 2s seem to suck in everything but deep mud and clay.

Maxxis creepy crawlers last a long time and work decent in various conditions.
Very tough sidewalls. Had a set o 38.5" for 10 years, maybe 1/3 thread left and stil sold them 100€ / piece.

And bought same tires again, almost new for a 1000/set.

Swamped has some 35” m16 a for 200 right now. Only catch is they only have 3.

For the treps, anyone have experience with the Trep Bias Ply sidewalls and how they hold up? Google search provides mixed reviews and I can't tell if they are talking about radial, bias, or the sticky. I wheel with a guy on 37" trep stickies and he has never had a problem with the sidewalls but he is a lot more patient and controlled then myself.

I was going to say the same about ICan'ts (get no traction unless I'm a sticky or out on sticky rocks) tires. :lmao: Never been impressed by them on any weight rig unless they were the sticky compound.

No first hand experience in this tire size other than knowing that Mickey Thompson also offers a 37" tire (want to say Baja Boss?) that you should throw into consideration just based on how they seem to hold up to a buddies Explorer. They wore a set of 37" Sticky Treps to the cords and never had a tire issue that I recall with constant wheeling in the Southeast and a handful of trips out west.

keep your foot out of it and they won't fall off. Dunno most everyone around here still has side lugs but my Creepies are pretty worn. Still have tread left, it's just real hard. Almost like work hardened. I did sipped them and seems to sorta help ish. I probably will go with something else next time. Treps seem to do better, sidewalls are good.

I'll add that the sx 2 sucks on everything, I'd put it right even with thornbirds

I'd say bias treps be a good all over tire. They have tough sidewalls. If your wasting good o'l bias sx's I really don't think any tire is gonna make you happy. They are about the toughest tire ever made.
