205/ord magnum what shifters???

I have hard linked shifters and can shift cases with ease unless bound. The cable shifters seem super spongy and give no feeling in the shift, nor enough force IMO>

Possibly why they have adjustable detents available.

What are your shifters mounted to?

OEM "bolted to the side of the transmission" style mounting DGAF how twisted up the body and frame are.

I just installed my cable shifters last week. Feel great, especially with the adjustable detents. I can feel the shift all the way thru all the detents.

because i knew i could not use the factory mount at all and i dont have it mounted in the rig i could not wrap my head around where to make a pivot point.

thank you for the super cool idea.

so here is a wild idea we came up with one night. so the tranny mount will not be used, so what if i flipped the tranny adpter mount 180 degrees and put the foot on top and use that to make my shifter pivot points. at all depends on how the floor works out of course but its an idea.

i wish it was my idea but it was thought about in my shop. hahahaah i will give it a look at least. hell it may turn into a cool arm rest too. maybe cup holder. wow all kinds of ideas. lol

Bumping this up. For an atlas, but still looking for ideas. The universal "HD" kit from AA, is $200, but I feel like I can make something better for less. Anyone have any tips for pivot points? Just a ~1/2" ID bushing pressed into some Dom?

Good source for small hiems?

I haven’t gone down this path myself yet but will be eventually, I was planning on studying McMaster Carr’s offering and piecing something together

Seems like female hiems with all thread connecting them is the easiest way to make the linkage, pretty it up with some. Dom, or aluminum if you want to pretty it up. Or a male and female together if you need short.

Fucking around on summit, there is lot of options for threaded rods to use female hiems, or small kits with threaded tubes for male heims.

On my old hydraulic pump I made mechanical linkage with near zero backlash and low friction.
3/8” Teflon lined rod ends for ends
3/8” coupler nuts and all thread for links
1” track/cam bearings with 7/16” stud for lever pivot point.
1” split shaft coupler to hold the cam bearing and weld onto chassis.
Had 2 cam bearings back to back for twin sticks.

I just ordered 3/8" heims. They were cheap enough on summit that I got 4 female and 4 male just in case

Ordered some. 3/8x24 stainless rod and some 1/2 ID x 3/4OD flange bushings. I plan to trim them down and use 2 per small piece of Dom like a leaf spring bushing. Or just grab a bronze washer for between the two.

My set up is kinda wierd and I want to move the shifters further forward than most, so hopefully not hitting the easy button and getting the kit from AA doesn't bite me in the ass.

Push pull cables?

I really don't like cables. I swore them off years ago after driving a jk with a 4 speed atlas and cable shifters. I recently looked into them for this project and for every person praising them, there seems to be another saying they had issues. I get they work well for tons of people, just don't want them.

I'm not trying to put them 4' from the tcase, but probably a little further up than the kits from AA will. I also don't like how aa just extends the all thread and adds a spacer to move them forward.

Build your rubber bushing into the joint down the way where the weld is.

otherwise oyre likely gonna be fixing stuff down the road.

ya gotta get the rubber mounts closer together.

Scott, again thanks. I started mine. Made the first linkage prototype. And it will work…. Also I am using a bent connecting rod as one of the shifters. Turns out I love that look. I was going to use breaker bars for the other two. But now I think I want more 22r connecting rods. Hmmmmmm
