What's new

2025 Corvette ZR1, 1064hp, twin turbo

Only a complete dumbass would pay Ferrari prices for the trailer park version. At the end of the day, it's still just a corvette

So, trailer park Ferrari or current Ford gt? The gt probably still goes twice what the zr1 does cost wise.

I'm not a GM nor Chevy guy and I'd take the zr1 every single time... I think (having never been near, sat in, nor driven and likely never will will, either one)

The gt isn't a mass produced mid life crisis

It’s evident fully 3/4 of you should never own a Dodge Viper  No nannies. Shorter wheelbase than 99% of the cars on the road and TOOOOOOOOONS of low end punch. Never mustanged it. You gotta DRIVE it.
Two middle aged guys died in a viper in my town a couple years ago, car wasn't even registered and they took it for a test run. Clear dry day and they put it in the trees on a long sweeping corner. The car's still under tarps at the tow yard.

That may be true, but it's not like they're going to build 50,000 ZR1's.

'Stang GTD goes for $300k. This ZR1 will be close to that actual cost. Will be interesting to see actual on-track performance. I imagine this is more "because we could" rather than hitting a specific performance target. Big HP numbers sell.

I was more referring to the regular Ford gt, not the mustang. And by all accounts, the zr1 should embarrass the Ford gt. For way less money (in theory)

I really don't know anything about the GTD. I should look it up.

I'm the opposite. I'd take the GT all day everyday if I had the choice of one or the other. It's a true custom built super car with very low production numbers. I've only seen one Ford GT in the wild ever. A stupidly rich guy in the town I lived in out in CO had one (there was a Bugatti Veyron in town too, what an ugly but bad ass car that was). We lived nearly a mile off the highway and I could hear that thing go up the road sitting in my house. That was a bad motherfucking car.

dumbass doesn't know what a Ferrari costs: SF90 (benchmark for the vette per reports) $528,764–$995,000

Childhood dream to own a viper. :usa: I want to go to the chiropractor after commuting that bitch.
It’s a “ comfortable car to drive”. Tons of leg room. Foot box isn’t terrible. It is however hot and rattles pretty bad. Getting in and out over the wide door sil is kind of awkward. You basically just lay down and roll onto the ground. But driving it out on the open road is not bad at all.

IDK if anyone else saw it, but the starter is in the valley again. GM, COULD YOU JUST NOT!!!!

$150K starting price.
Really, It is there on many other engines as well. Such as the other ZR1 engine. How many times do you expect to replace a damn starter.......

This^^^^ It will be fast and all but will still be full of Chevy spark window switches and rattle like a bucket of bolts over every bump and expansion joint by 30k. I can talk shit because my viper was that way. Straight up 90’s caravan interior:lmao:

As much as we pay in road tax there shouldn't be any bumps, cracks and rough expansion joints:mad3:.

That kinda adds to the fun when you buy an old one.

“Aw man this is the same door handle as my Cavalier”

I'd still like to get a ZO6. Would be interesting to know what all the turbo bits from the ZL1 would cost. Looks like there will be a 50k-100k difference in price between the two.
A buddy of mine has a Z06/6speed and we did a Corsa axle back exhaust on it at my shop.

Its the most "exotic" car I've ever worked on, and its a lot of fun to drive. Rowing through the gears with 500 hp will put a smile on your face!

You know as well as anyone that no axles on any exotic will handle 1000 hp without the nannies

I guess that is the weak link?

From Zero load to 750 kw on a generator, which is close to 1000 hp, takes around 4” of shaft and that is with shear bolts in the coupling so you don’t twist the shaft. That happens in less than 60
Cycles.

The shear bolts are for short circuit though not full on load.

Wrapped around a rocket V10. What do they expect from "American Muscle_:laughing::laughing:

The shaft has to be 4" because of the weight of the rotor.

You can buy 1500+hp capable half shafts for most modern muscle cars with IRS these days so that argument is irrelevant. You are also never going to get a car to dead hook on street tires on the street so that's another thing to consider in your example.

This.

Look at the teeny tiny shafts on 1000hp boats.

Likewise a spots car needs a lot less drivetrain than a truck that's gonna have 10k of weight to make traction on the rear axle.

1000 nanny controlled and torque managed horsepower isn't the same as 1000 raw horsepower out of a big block either.

Yeah and? Is there a big block that can competed with the new vette? Or is this just a "well yeah this is better and cheaper" thread? :flipoff2:

That reminds me about how the food GT had focus stalks, window switches, and more interior parts. Such a nice car, and I felt like I was driving my focus.

Pretty sure the ZL1 is being built so they can say the C8 will do 215mph. It takes lots of HP to push a car through the air. Especially cars that make a lot of down force. The latest group of super cars is getting close to 300mph and they're putting out over 1500hp+.

What's nice is that they turbocharged the ZL1. A couple adjustable wastegates with a knob on the dash and you now have adjustable horse power.:smokin:

I dig the transaxle they're using in the C8. I read "automatic" and assumed it would be some version of a 8L80/90 with fancy paddle shifters. Nope. It's full of straight cut gears. Nice.
