Hunting with a dog is either awesome, or the most angering experience of your life! Glad it worked out for ya

Well, I don’t hunt much anymore. When I do I’m a predator/varmint hunter exclusively.

However, I really enjoy maintaining a little sanctuary on our 20 acres for my dad.

Today the wife text me at the very end of my shift saying my dad needed help ASAP. So, off we go, tracking in rain and tons of maple and oak leaves.

He didn’t make it far. My dad is tagged out for buck and onto to doe now.

Ellie making it happen. Pointed 6 and flushed 2. Grouse have to be the ultimate challenge in bird hunting. Flush a pointed bird at 5 feet and have it completely out of sight inside of 20 feet, with nothing but trees and brush in that 20 feet.
I've never hunted them behind a pointing dog, only flushers. I feel like it would help some to have a pointer so you're more ready for that thunderous flush that is over in a second. Good bird!

Never hunted grouse with a dog before either. Once I figured out the noise they normally make before they flush. I started taking home alot more birds

Deer didn't cooperate tonight but these two coyotes did. First shot at 25 yards with the AR just went click. :lmao: Apparently the forward assist takes a lot more to seat the bolt on this build than im used to. Luckily it didn't fire with the bolt out of battery.

Dropped mag redropped bolt on chambered round and was able to get a shot off on it out the back of the deer blind as it ran off.

5 minutes later a second one stepped out at 200ish yards. Lip squeaked it in little closer and missed. It ran towards me and was able to put a good shot back on.

Shot 2 does tonight during Missouri rifle antlerless. First one was at about 3 pm and about 150 yards. Good shot right behind the shoulder and ran about 40 yards. (Pic below)

Second one was around 430 (legal shooting time was 515) at about 230 yards along the neighbors fence. It's half electric and they usually don't cross at the electric portion so I took the chance it wouldn't. Think I shot low shoulder cuz it ran off with it's leg flopping pretty good. It did cross the fence but past the electric so with the neighbors permission I was able to go look for it. It got dark and I didn't have much blood so I backed out and am going to look for it tomorrow morning.
