I recently picked up a 2002 Tacoma. Drove it around town for a handful of days and took it out on a wheeling trip. First trail was Grizzly Lake. Made it a out 3/4 of a mile and it died. Had a couple sputters before hand that I thought was my foot bouncing off gas. Had to tow it off trail.

The Tacoma will crank but not start. It does not have spark. There will be one spark at key on but nothing while cranking. Tried a new igniter with no change. Codes read are p0100 p0101 and p1300. I am getting tach signal checked with obd2 reader.

Other notes: supercharged 3.4. Has the 2nd gen TRD charger. TRD piggy back ECUs and a URD 7th injector kit with URD computer.

Igniter circuit tests good to piggy back but I don't get continuity from piggy back to stock ECU. Not sure if I should or not.

Anyone got any ideas?

You may not like this response…

You have a lot of moving parts there… and they add complexity.

Could be any of the above, could be MAF, could be fuel pump…

Yeah agreed.

Will a bad MAF cause a no spark issue on these?

There is fuel, since when it sparks on "key on" it tends to ignite whatever is left in the cylinders/exhaust

Shot in the dark but does it have a aftermarket alarm?

Power at the fuse box and all the other basic stuff? I know in older toyotas if you mess with the white wire supplying the under hood fuse box, it won't run.

I'd also question the aftermarket stuff , is there a easy way to make it run at idle/ light throttle with just oe components?

Just to close this out, I ended up removing the aftermarket PCU's from the system and the truck started and ran fine. Reconnected the the TRD PCU and went back to crank no start. Ended up buying a new URD controller which seems to have fixed the issue. Apparently TRD PCU failures are a not uncommon occurrence with age depending on who you talk to.

Now to get ready for Moab November 1.
