1991 O2 sensor placement

Just got a 91 GMC c1500. Has dual side x side exhaust,but no O2 sensor or bung. Engine light on,and blinky obd1 say O2 open circuit. (duh)
where is the best place to put one in? I know pointing down is best,but also how far away can it be from the manifold? Am I making it more complicated than it needs to be? i like to do that.

Is there no bung in the manifold itself? Normally the sensor is before the collector that connects the left and right down pipe.

It's been converted to dual exhaust,from the manifolds back. They run side by side.

Keep it close to the manifold, the 1 wire 02 sensors require exhaust heat to work properly.

both my 88/89 r/v pickups with 454s are right in the manifolds. [Driver side]

Single wires should be as close as possible to the head as they are not "self heating".
