Just got a 91 GMC c1500. Has dual side x side exhaust, but no O2 sensor or bung. Engine light on,and blinky obd1 say O2 open circuit. (duh)
where is the best place to put one in? I know pointing down is best, but also how far away can it be from the manifold? Am I making it more complicated than it needs to be? i like to do that.

Is there no bung in the manifold itself? Normally the sensor is before the collector that connects the left and right down pipe.

both my 88/89 r/v pickups with 454s are right in the manifolds. [Driver side]

Single wires should be as close as possible to the head as they are not "self heating".
