I’m not sure how far I’ll get with this “build” thread… my thread on mud is only sporadically updated.
I’ll try to keep up!

Anywho, I bought my LC in 2017, November.
It had a 6.2 Chevy diesel, 3/4 ton axles from the same donor, sm465-np208 and some mega ghetto fender flares.

As of today (2021, December), it has a Vortec 4.8 to sm465, np203/205, dana 60F/14 bolt rear and some Milestar Patagonia in 37” flavor.

Woah, I neglected this thread.
Haha, the trailer used to be a travel trailer of some sort. It’s had many evolutions over the years, but it sure pulls well.

Recently I put beadlocks back on the LC, getting ready for some snow runs hopefully.

Who the heck would swap a 6.2 Chevy diesel into anything
I actually just saw some Australians who not only kept the 6.2 in their LC. They spent a lot of money completely restoring and upgrading the truck. Pretty surprising they kept the motor, I could understand the later Chevy 6.5 in a truck like these (sorta) but the 6.2… to each their own I guess.
The 6.5 was swapped into quite a few 60 and 80 series, my Dad has a 80 that had an early Torfab 6.5 swap, it was a 4bt now though.

Not much happening, LC is on the back burner for a bit. Went wheeling with the local guys and screwed the steering up. Bent the drag link and my tie rod ends aren’t happy… so I’m waiting to rebuild that better and stronger.
Ive been working on my ‘82 PU in the mean time.

I like that corner protection. I need something like that, as I have dents in front of the light on both sides of my 60. Would you do anything differently?

Wouldn’t change anything yet, I think it’s enough protection but not to much. I still need to tie quarter guard back into the frame though. I’m also planning on a swing out so that should help complete it.

Got nowhere else to post stuff for my pickup… so I’ll post it here. Got hands on with the cutoff wheel the other day.

Working on building a rear bumper and tire carrier for it. Gonna try to make it original, I’ve got some ideas.
After that, ram assist, parking brake and front shock hoops installed.

Walked outside a couple days ago and noticed the Land Cruiser had a flat tire so… it’s basically totaled.

Pickup looks sweet. Did you cut front fenders around the flare and then straight under the headlight or more than that?

I actually saved the 4wd flared fenders, those are a set off of my 2wd parts truck.
Honestly just created a hand drawn radius, then used cardboard aided design to copy the template to the other side…

Also started welding up the rear bumper, still gotta buy the new taillights. Then I should have all the pieces to get it finished… just gotta find the time.

Looks great. I’m going to do a similar cut on my 4wd fenders, they are super rotted right at the bottem so tryna figure a way to cut that out that looks good with the rest of the shape

Just shoot clear over the rust.

“Fixed” the Land Cruiser tire, it’s hard work but someone has to do it.

Anyways, had a few hours to stick some metal on the pickup too. Did some stuff.
Lights down low? Or upright? Any thoughts or opinions I can ignore?

Wherever they are less likely to get damaged. Probably horizontal, as those bed-sides will get dented at some point.

Are you going back with rear section of the bed/tailgate or just cap it with the sheet metal? I like them in the vertical position. Those lights look pretty close to the same size as the original tail lights and probably way cheaper than 1st gen light assemblies. I would massage the factory light openings to fit those. I can’t see a good place to mount them horizontally that wouldn’t get into the tailgate area and be somewhat protected by the bumper you have built this far.

Do you have a link to those tail lights? I dig them.

I got you.

Amazon junk, but I’m sure they’ll work “fine”

The bed will stay unfinished, the bumper will actually have a perfect spot to mount them I think (if I don’t mess it all up with my “creativity”).
There will be a spare tire mount in the middle of the bumper and laying down into the bed.

I think I’ll do horizontal, I like how it looks and I think it’ll be out of the way.

Thanks dude:beer::beer::beer:

I wish you lived closer. I would take the section you cut out. It looked nicer than the back of my bed lol.

Yeah, that’s my worst case scenario hold out, if I mess everything up I can still do a traditional bob by welding that back on.
It’s in pretty good shape though, for a 1st gen bed at least…

Had some free time this afternoon…

I was thinking of running something between the top of the bed rails down to the brace that the lights will mounted to. Might just be unnecessary though…
Gotta figure out the tire carrier too, it’ll rotate out of the bed so that I don’t have to lift the tire in and out of the bed. I need to make a RuffStuff order, and buy all the hydraulic stuff I have in my cart for the ram assist.

It would be easy to mount the lights out there on the edge. But the middle spot might look cooler. Eh. Whatever, I’ll probably just make a random snap decision next time. I can always change it.

That’s where the spare will sit though. Cutting edge stuff, I know…

Random question, but what are your thoughts on those Yokohama X-MT’s? I have a set of 37in Cooper STT Pro’s. They seem to be a good all around tire. I want to go up to a 39.5-40in tire. I’ve been looking at the X-MT, STT Pro, or trail grapplers. Another part of me wants to try some Baja pro’s or the new 40in SX2’s. I have really heard much feed back on them yet.

I love SX2, they are great for just about anything… except road manners I guess :shaking:
I’m liking my XMT though, good all around manners, decent price. They hook up pretty good around here, mostly dry rock and sandy stuff. Not so great in the clay, but I had no complaints in the snow.
I’ll buy another set I think, in a 40” when I wear these out.
The Cruiser will end up with something a bit more highway friendly though…
