It will not stay stright. Smack it on the anvil, stright as an arrow. Starts to bind and bends. Heat it quench in used oil, same result.

I have a couple metal coffee cans I throw that sort of stuff into and when they're full I take them to the recycling yard where they have a 55 gallon drum for such things.
Give me your address and every few months I'll send them to you

**** like that gets thrown in the swarf trashcan under the drill press and next to the lathe or the cut-off barrel next to the bandsaw. Then they dumped into the scrap bin outside at a later date. That way if I need it back I only have to sort through the small trash can/barrel! 
Oh and just because it's in the scrap bin doesn't mean I won't go pulling it back out to use on a current project.

it's like the trash can on computers, you can always get the file back later before you empty it. Speaking of which, the metal trash can I have under my drill press is getting pretty heavy. I should dump it before anything catches my eye
