Build Tacoma 4500 build

LS leaks off the back of the engine is usually the rear engine cover/ rear main cover or the cam shaft position sensor on top (if yours is the older style not on the front cover.)
Up there don't you just call that rust prevention?

Guess I won’t be driving it this weekend. But instead pulling the front axle apart for what feels like the 1000th time to replace the other axle seal…. Things pushing my patience

Weird turn of events. Went to replace the axle seal and when I pulled the bucket it was still dry. After more looking, I got lucky and it was just one of the Amsoil soft quart bags which was in the driver door got a small hole and dripped perfectly to look like it was coming from the axle tube.

Found out more info.

I picked up some gas last week. When we did the big loop, I thought I ran out of gas after 70 miles and thought we were only getting 2mpg. That day I put about 12 gallons in it and then drove it home the last 10 miles. After getting more gas it only took 3 ish more gallons.

So that told me I was actually getting roughly 5 mpg and that was with the idling while engine tuning.

I ended up using the second fuel pump and I pumped roughly 32-33gallons out of the fuel cell (advertised as 32 gallon cell) into dump cans. So that told me the fuel pickup tube is at the bottom. I then pulled the fuel filters and both were pretty dirty. The first one had some plastic from the cell and some foam. The second didn’t have any foam but had just a lot of gunk on it.

So maybe my issue was the fuel filters clogging but I also had a theory that the vent had kinked (because it had a few kinks in it) and the filter at the end of the vent got oil soaked and was caked in dirt. So I put a braided vent hose in and ran the hose off the rear bumper.

And my last theory is it was vapor locking which I think is extremely unlikely due to the weather and temps the car was running. And how the hoses are ran.

So I drove it on my loop again it averaged around 5.5 mpg which I feel is acceptable. I’m going to do more driving especially now that it’s getting hotter to make sure it doesn’t vapor locking which but more than likely I feel it was a combination of the clogged fuel filters and lack of venting going on.

I also got the driveshaft balanced (which I’m not sure was an issue, more than likely my vibrations came from the rear atlas flange moving) and there was no vibrations up to the 55 or 60 we did on Sunday. The truck overall ran really well. Trans temp was climbing a little but I think I was being conservative when I would slow down or stop and I was pushing the car pretty hard. The thing feels fast and smooth power wise.

Hopefully my major issues are over. There’s no real drips or puddles under the car anymore. The engine has a small oil leak which I think is the pan gasket. I’ll change that next time I change the oil and I got a longer dipstick for it too.

Today I started on the rear boxes and making them fit as I need more storage room. They’re about 95% done. Just more grinding and the dzus tab on the driver one. Then I’ll move onto a middle plate to mount boxes and maybe some number plates and the bedsides

I had a massive vapor lock issue on a moto race back in the day. I was starting to have full on Yosemite Sam style meltdowns on the course. I had put on the oversized tank since they were bigger loops and when I superglued the vent tube onto the cap, it glued shut. In my rage, I couldn't figure it out until I got back to the pits and Pops was like "hey dum dum, your tank is ****ed" and when he cracked the cap, it hissed and returned to normal. I'd rather chase electrical problems than fueling problems.

Part of me also thinks it was the vent issue cause I cracked the cap when it first started sputtering and shook the car to see if I can hear fuel and then it ran fine for several more miles. I never paid attention to listen for a hiss or anything but if it does it again, I now have an idea of where to start looking etc

Remade the number plates and made them 4” longer so the numbers fit inside the bead roll. I painted the backs black incase I do different series. Outside will be orange for koh/ultra4
