8.1L/496 Tech

Man all I hear are stories of these going 400k miles. What happened the first time? Just beat on?
Survivorship bias. No one is talking about the motors that died young anymore. And these were pretty solid.

Got my oil analysis back. This was towing from western Pennsylvania to West Virginia, South Dakota, and Kentucky hauling the buggy all over.

Thanks. I am interested in having this done on my 8.1 and a recent 302 rebuilt I did. I follow The Motor Oil Geek on YT and he does deep dives on oil analysis. Its intriguing.

Anyone interested in a 8.1 driveline let me know and i will get you contact info. Mine will be coming up for sale soon, but not by me.

Im back in the market for another big block if anyone finds a nice one..

Man there was a 2.3L whipple off an 8.1 that they intercooler deleted and ran on meth with all mounts for $1500 this week. I still have one on the shelf with allison I was going to put in a square on a SD 05 up chassis, the blower would be the ****......until I figured out they don't support it anymore, if it need rebuilt its a small pool of anyone that can make it happen etc. I was fired TF up for about 2 hours messaging him and researching

Whipple doesn't support the 2.3l anymore? Are you sure?

Not even a little bit. Found forum posts claiming they don’t support that specific blower. Unsure if it’s a different config that used something special. Just drunk internet searching and parroting as if were fact 😬

For those looking for rusty fuel rail solutions, watch this video around the 13:00 minute mark. Looks like Raylar is going to have something available soon. Not clear if its a OEM equivalent, but it looks like a nice setup:
