Wonder what this shorty was used for.

Looks to me like someone in the factory balked at the cost of a special purpose machine and got to looking at some old manual machine that was inn storage and destined to be sold/scrapped.

Lord knows if it had that chuck on it when it was working or if they shoved it in storage again and then someone pulled it back out for a month a decade later and slapped that on to do one job.
 
I was at Starrett yesterday to pick up most of the junk I bought. Based on everything I saw it seems like they're trying reducing or winding down some of the dirtier/hotter processes.

Private Equity probably decided that the number of DEP ****ings per dollar on certain things was too damn high.
