Toyota W56 Engine Options?

I can see the different versions of those motors making things a bit more of a challenge. Cant say they seem any less reliable than the 3.4's though. Werent the 2RZ's mainly in the 2wd rigs?

2rz (2.4L)were in 5-lug models, didnt have the balance shaft
3rz (2.7L)were in 6-lug models, had a balance shaft

i think so. my 2wd taco had a 2rz

also as cool as the VW diesel would be i think smelling that all day long in a buggy would suck

FleshEater the most reliable toyota engine ever imo is the 4.7.......got room for one of those :flipoff2:

They are definitely less reliable than a 3.4. I've burned valves, cracked the head, and killed a couple bottom ends in both of my 3RZ's. The balance shafts do not oil very well and turn the oil pan into a glitter bomb. I've had way way better luck since cutting the balance shaft chains out of mine.

If I were going V8 it’s be an LS. Simply for the aftermarket and availability.

Keeping the W trans in a light buggy I think Honda is the way to go in every regard.

Everything else is too much weight or torque, too unique with not enough upside, etc.

is Niteparts in NZ the only place that makes a K24 to W56 bellhousing?

Really?

My friend group since high school is 80%+ Toyota guys. Out of those, every 3rz I can think of had major issues and off the top of my head, only can think of one blown up 3.4 and way more of them had 3.4s including myself. The blown one was in 1 ton Toyota on 47s that got the absolute **** beat out of it. May have been out of oil on the Revimiter for all I know.

Also, 3.4s are everywhere and there isn't a million different versions.

That's the same company I found, but a much different description......?

I do wonder how the idle and off idle tq is with the k series? I feel like that's important with a manual crawler. I'd imagine it has to be better than the 1.6 and probably better than the 22re. But not sure those are good benchmarks

S2Ks also used F series engines, not K.
F20s are about the last engine I would ever want to spec for an offroad application, but it could definitely be used to stunt on the poors :grinpimp:
My buddy is in the process of K24 swapping his S2k after blowing the F20 spectacularly at a drift event

With a doubler and manual trans it shouldn’t matter much. At least not in my scenario.

It 100% does. 230:1 sucks for lots of stuff, having an engine that can chug along at ~130:1 makes life much easier. Especially in loose rocks and slick **** where just a tiny bit of momentum goes a long way

The RZ seems to have two main reliability problems. valve lash causing burnt valves, and balance shafts. I think if you delete the balance shafts, or just don't have them to start with (2rz) and make sure your valve lash is within spec they last a long time. Lots of built and boosted 2rz applications.

Balance shaft failure is from sludge plugging the oil passage feeding the rear bearing. There's various snake oils that people on BobIsTheOilGuy claim will clean an engine, so might want to check that out.
