Build Tacoma 4500 build

If it has too much ignition ****** it will increase EGTs and won't help your coolant temp problem. Definitely get a decent tune in it.

hold up, your chasing a cooling issues at high load without the engine being tuned?
A tune won’t magically make it run 20 degrees cooler. They said maybe a little cooler. Plus the Holley has its self learn system that’s always adjusting.
2mpg would say there's room for improvement.

Does the Holley do logging? If you can get some good logs, a quality tuner can do wonders with that info.
It will do logging. I’m not sure the details on it though.

And 2mpg is with most the day in low range and romping on it in high through the sand

You would be very surprised at how much a tune can do for temps...

Remember that the Holley is NOT self-tuning. It will adjust fueling compensation tables in order to achieve the AFR from the AFR table. But if your timing and AFR tables are off, they will not fix those.

2 MPG is a little low. At race pace I usually plan for 3-4 MPG. That tells me also that the tune needs work.

your engine tune with a known tuner you can look in the face after he reviews your datalogs AND 2-3 full days of shock tuning is the best thing you can do for your race program at this point in time.

Holley's closed loop system does pretty ok. Definitely needs to be tickled in the right spots by someone with a touch of the tism though.
Also, agree with finding a tuner that you can kick in the shins when he grenades your ****. I have a remote tune on my DD and it is certainly leaving something on the table. I'm just not spending $800+ on a dyno tune for a cammed DD.

If anything post the ignition map and someone with LS experience can see if it's in the ballpark
(That someone isn't me)

Fastspec2 ?
I'd certainly look at it if you are interested in a 21243524336465354th opinion. PM me and I'll send you an E-mail you can send the file to. If you want. If not no big deal.
Have a good one.

Got the shocks tuned yesterday. I dropped off the front coilovers last Thursday and they did some stuff to the pistons. We only pulled the rear bypasses and they changed the shims in them. I thought it was pretty good before but it’s really good now. Vital motion works here in Vegas did them and look forward to more when I get more comfortable.

The only thing I was unsure of is they wanted me to do it all on 4wd. I ended up doing two passes in 4wd and felt a little better but I was definitely going slower as I was worried to hurt the front end or tcase.

My friend that owns vital motion also got me in contact with JP at total racing solutions and this morning he remotes in and tuned the motor. He found a few things wrong and wants a data log this week to make a few final tweaks. And th brushless Chevy volt fans showed up

I also obliterated a rock behind a bush after getting a little squirrely off a bump and destroyed a rim and took out a brake line. Closed the valve for the rear and clamped the line and continued on.

Some of the last runs. Started the day balls to the wall at 40mph. By the end, I was able to comfortably average 50-55mph. They think I left a lot on the table and want to retune when I get more comfortable.

Listened to Erik wicks on WWW podcast... He said they started season with 14 wheels tires... Down to 7 or so... Better get a sponsor!
I got 10 tires and 8 wheels to start. Raceline helped me out with a discount but they’re still a lot. I’ll probably order 3 more wheels. The tire looks salvageable for a play/test tire.

Tires I bought on sale due to old date codes and bought all that I could. Was over half off for them and still cost me a fortune.

a frame by frame of the rock smash lol

Good deal man.

Thinking I have a bad iac. Sent a data log to the tuner and it either only wants to start hot or cold. No matter what he does to the iac, it doesn’t seem to do anything. Working on testing the old iac and ordered a new acdelco one.

I also got the new fans mounted and wired. Made a new shroud that’s 2” vs the original was 1/2”. I wired the positive to the battery switch and ran the pwm signal wire to the holley inputs. Now just need to configure them in the computer.

Very nice. I bet you see a big difference.

Any plans to put the close out panels back in around it?
I’d prefer not to run them but I may just put the ones on the back that overlap the radiator back on and leave the side ones off. They make it hard to work on everything g back there. I’ll do a test like this first and see hd they work.

Just on the back should really help all by itself.
