Build Tacoma 4500 build

Got the springs on day before we left for koh. During a test drive though front end locked up and I had to pry the drive slugs out and take the driveshaft out to get it home. Fronts about an inch low and rears about an inch high.

But plan was to take the rzr anyway since we were going to just walk around tech and watch the race. We sat at chocolate during the utv race after walking tech and then for emc and Saturday race, we sat at jackhammer. Jackhammer was wild. Winches every which way. Just overall chaos.

We left koh Saturday night to avoid the chaos of leaving Sunday. My dad was staying till Tuesday so we could get some more things done. Sunday we got up and worked on the truck some. I got the front end apart and diff pulled. It ate the pinion bearing for some reason. We made a new list of things to do and he knocked out a bunch of things. Jack mount. Jack handle mount. Made some rear boxes for storage. Air line for the compressor to tank. And more. I got the passenger floor board done and door bars. Door bars cleared the doors but he cut them for storage. He fixed the dash that got damaged again.

Monday I called gearworks to make sure they have the bearings and seal needed to fix the pinion so my dad could take it home with him and fix it. Gearworks asked what happened and despite us setting the gears up etc they said bring it by and they’ll get us setup. This morning we stopped and they rebuilt the pinion for cost of parts and we threw them some lunch money. Made a life long customer out of me that’s for sure. Great company. Got it back home and reassembled and pattern looks the same as far as I can tell so tomorrow I’ll try and slap it back I.

Had a low pinion 60 do the same thing, likely too much bearing preload. I frigged mine up, luckily housing was salvageable.

It sucks but glad you got it caught before it mattered.

The bearing wore a grove in the solid spacer which likely changed the preload. Was enough to lock the front end up and skid the car 10 feet on asphalt.

front arb locker works. Air free spool works. Compressor finished wired. Dash had to be narrowed to fit the door bars (not sure why I have pictures of it in and out with the door bars in but think it’s cause of the center panel). Parker pumper finished. Horns in and wired to a button. Switch pros programmed. Dash mounts in. And I’m sure more. Works been busy and we got a bit of snow over the last week that’s kept me busy

Looks like some big brown eyes telling you to put the tools down and throw the ball.
Keep up the great work.

I might have missed it but what headers did you end up using?

Build came out amazing!

Need to order a fire suit. Was originally going to order a summit 2 layer suit which my dad got but it’s thick heavy and bunched up at my legs. The two layers prevents me from having the wife hem the cuffs.

After seeing the work everyone put in at koh I’m thinking going with a single layer suit and wear the fire ******ant underclothes/wear. Any recommendations?

Looking at the pci one piece suit.

As a former ER nurse, I highly encourage everyone to buy the fanciest safety equipment they can. $1500 for a custom suit is a lot cheaper than a day in burn unit and a lot more comfortable than getting your skin debrided. Buy stuff that's comfortable and that you'll be happy to wear, then you're more inclined to wear it. I've always been an alpinestars guy from my moto days (mostly because I'm too fat for Dainese).

Lots of stuff fighting me but we are getting there. The passenger seat doesn’t fit as the top shoulder area is wider. And a big overheating issue. Thinking it’s a bad thermostat so going to replace that.

Windshield is out. I made the panels for behind the head. Just need to bead roll and cut the middle out for mesh. My dad’s back and we got one fender mounted. Plan is the other tomorrow. Dash is In for good. Wirings complete. New chase bar on the back above the radiator. Radio mount. Window nets ordered. Seat belts in. And I’m sure more. Haven’t really been taking pictures. Just been working trying to get things done. We went for a small test drive and it felt good.

Steering is very twitchy and feels like it’s trying to find center but wanders back and forth. I can feel it in the wheel like it’s transferring between valves or something if anyone has any input on that.

Hijack: What organization are the 1A plates from? It's been driving me bonkers if we actually know each other from the moto world.

We tested the thermostat today. It doesn’t start opening till 195 and isn’t full open till 205. Even fully open I don’t think it was all the way. Regardless Way too high so I ordered a 160. And will try again.

MRAN. Which is the local southern Nevada desert series.
