Build thread for our 2026 X3 Turbo X
Haven't picked it up yet but I'm planning on some stuff.

Hard coated windshield or Glass, been leaning hard coated as the last one was never an issue. I am worried about hauling it on the rack and a rock busting it.

To that point i'm also worried about the canam Sport roof that appears to be quick release flying off. I will probably make that more permanent or something to prevent that.

Possible UHMW skid plate, I am also leaning towards just removing the factory one and drilling some UHMW sheet, do it when it's new so the pattern should be easy to replicate.

No stereo at this time, looking at motorcycle style bluetooth headsets for comms. Easy to integrate with GMRS for group rides, easy music sharing or independent music. It would be nice to have for motorcycle riding as well, just add speakers to my dirt bike helmet.

Need to come up with dry box storage. The X3 appears to have completely ****ty storage options. The rear bed floor is ***ty high and a single 30" spare laying down will likely completely fill that area.

I was going to build my version of the Chupacabra Offroad B2G but I don't know if I really like the proportions of it, it's hard to say just from pix and vid but it might be too much sand car for my tastes.

Another issue is the muffler is in the space under the bed and for the B2G style storage the muffler has to be removed for a side exit. All the side exits seem to be very loud because of the size of the muffler allowed is not very big. I don't know if this can be overcame. I saw some vids yesterday of a bed delete with a cooler rack and it nearly seems like there is room for another muffler above the radius rod plate but outside of the rear tube structure. This kid did a really good job on his side exhaust and bed delete, it doesn't sound much if any louder than stock and IMO looks good. I don't need near that much cooler now that we're not carrying food and drink for 4 people.

I'm hoping the turbo is the key to altitude compensation.
10k'+ and **** gets wheazy.

Practically I am not sure how well these altitude compensate. In my other machine there was high and low altitude tables but they looked to be the same so no idea if that is the same on the X3.

I will say the 130 hp machines definitely feel stronger than 130 hp, I'm betting you'll be really happy with it, even at altitude.

I hope you are right. Its not popular to say but I don't need the 200+ hp of the RR and the intercooler is more of a problem than a help for what I want to do.
I am hoping the spare can lay flat on the old bed floor and hinge up with the lid of the dry storage. Really similar to how the B2G is.

The topic of the spare came up last night and we talked about if we really need it. We have never used it. One time a buddy loaned his to a guy on a quad. Since 2018 I've never used mine. Get the glue tread ****, a battery compressor to zip tie to the wheel and send it?

Worst case you trash a stock wheel and have a reason for an upgrade!
The thing is worst case is my trip is over or requires me to drive all over hell looking for a wheel in Colorado, NM or Texas.

I don't mind insurance so maybe I just buy the spare tire/wheel and bring it along but not on the rig.
best of both options?

Not sure how hard you drive this thing. But there will be plenty of beef you will want to add to it.

I have trailing arms, upper control arms (lowers coming soon!) full cage with 6 extra chassis tie in points, front bumpers, radius rod strengthening plates, and radius rod race plates (puts nuts inside frame instead) and a rear pull plate that you can hook to. Feel free to message me our check us out on instagram.

I’ve also been planning to do a full aluminum trunk with spare tire carrier on top of it.

All looks great.
I usually drive like a bitch and try not to create work for myself.

If was looking at gusset plates and all that sort of stuff but we'll see how far into that I get.

PTT steering wheel button interface for intercom.

I went with the JStar side dump exhaust...I don't think it's that much louder than stock and has a good tone.

I stocked your posts some cause I didn't think I had seen this before on here. It looks like you changed it up from a bed box/tire setup?
Any opinions on this setup vs that?
LSK bed delete kit?

for the spare the only time I have seen a plug not fix the issue. We were at Hot Springs Park a couple years ago and a buddy got a rock between the caliper and wheel and popped a nickel size hole in the wheel. Only fix for that was a spare tire/wheel. I have been lucky and never had to use my plug kit for myself. :knocks on wood

I take a spare but leave it in the truck/trailer.

I’m in the same boat on the spare. Ran one on my YXZ and X3 and never had to use them. Not running one on my Xpedition but have plugs and a Milwaukee compressor.

Keeping it at camp isn't a terrible stop gap. Steel putty any good at fixing wheels? Never tried it but I always keep a tube of it in the tool.bag.

being in the midwest we aren't ever more than 10-15 miles from the truck. Farthest we ever get from camp would be when we ride in AR (Mill Creek, Moccassin Gap) and we can get a ways from the truck. Most of the time riding at SMORR or other places we are a mile or two from the truck and it's not a big deal to have a buddy run back to camp to grab the spare.

Maybe look into gluetread, too. I heard the Snail Trail guys talk about it on their podcast when they tested them in the Rubicon. Held up well

Texas is a non issue, colorado is a different story.
I don't mind trashing a stock wheel too much, ruining a 7 day vacation I drove 15+ hours to get to is the worry.
Also riding solo is another level of sketchy, I have a spot, HAM/GMRS radio etc, but when we had the sxs and two bikes there was nearly always a self rescue option, with one SXS there is not much rescue besides walking for help, getting the truck for recovery.

I carry everything but a spare... Gluetread in two sizes, sidewall slugs, plug kit, as well as tire repair nails, safety wire, and a compressor. Spare stays in the truck... been lucky so far. I know im gonna regret not carrying it at some point, hopefully i can macguyver my way out of it or get a bud to run back and grab the spare if I absolutely need it... would rather not carry extra weight in the back of the rig.

I had dressed out the stock cage with a full enclosure set-up from Dirt Warrior, Can Am ice chest and tire rack and spare. I felt the extra weight up high and my running out of talent contributed to the flop below. I got rid of it all. Stock ROP's suck and replacing them with a good cage should be at the top of anybody's to-do list. I carved out the bed to accommodate Milwaukee boxes on a mount I made...so not a true bed delete. For me, I learned from what I did to arrive at where I'm at...much better now!

Resale value on SxS suck, get your money's worth out of it and use it to its fullest potential. They are fun as ****

How many trips do you take to Colorado a year? I wouldn't base everything you do to/with it on a singular trip once a year. Sounds like a recipe for not having fun with your SxS.

That's exactly why I don't like the current offerings of storage, tire mounts etc.
And thanks for sharing the fails along with the wins.

Id love some more pix of what all you got going on back there on the faux delete, surprisingly I haven't seen much of these cargo type deletes, they are all look at my big engine sand car type stuff.

I'm going to attempt to copy your setup but with a aluminum box, same as on my Maverick Trail.

And unless you plan on cutting and welding on your new ride, calling it a "build" is ghey. :lmao: :flipoff2:
There will be cutting welding. I plan on a full cage and other farkles.

Right now one trip a year to Colorado usually 7 days. But that's "kid" time budget. Now that I'm kid free (are you ever free) that will increase.
I don't need to break my **** to have fun, don't even need to stress it...

I don't plan on needing to get a different one (famous last words) I'd still be in the old one of it wasn't anemic at elevation and rough as a cob. All that was fixable but this is a better option I think, a lot more capable than I could ever make the other one.

We'll see how this goes as far as pushing the limits but I don't for see wadding it up at Disney or anything.
