That’s one fuggin sweet oops! Blue and white is one of my favs. C’mon spill the beans

The turn signal sockets, are they the Dorman repops?

Yea, dormans, seemed to fit well. I went ahead and did all 4 corners.
Rears had been replaced with what looked like dormans at some point...
Went with dorman side markers as well as the "heavy duty" dorman headlight connectors.

All exterior lights working except for the headlights. Have full battery voltage for both high and low beam, but plug in the lights and voltage goes away, thinking internal to switch? Going to try to replace headlight switch. I re-worked the grounds, and connectors to make sure solid connections etc.

I should have snapped pic of re-worked light harnesses, Not professional, but good for coming from me.

Went ahead and pulled apart dash and removed some past hack wiring. No more wires hanging down throwing sparks.
Figured out the gauge cluster was basically dust while trying to get it re-lit.
Moved to hvac controls, snugged things up and changed it's light bulb, and lubed up the cables.
So pausing there until gauge backing parts and speedo cable show up. While in there Im going to get tach and AFR installed, hook up the cig lighter and install the oil pressure gauge the way I want it done... Heater box needs to come out for motor and core next.

Wife fell in love with the blue/white truck. Picked it up last week. 400/c6/205.
Somewhat complete, unmolested truck, down to egr, charcoal can etc. Appears to have been repainted once. Needs floor plan on both sides but in good shape over all.. Brake line is blown somewhere so yard drives only, first dentside I've ever had with a working E-brake..

Going to get Brandon(this green 78) road worthy then move on to the blue one. Plans are TBD outside of getting blue one reliable/running/driving.

Just wow. Great score.

Speedo cable- source? Length? JBG website often times sucks and you have to speak with them which also sucks and they bitch and moan that the phone number is listed and you pointed out an error in P/N or application. I need to replace mine

Any of yall ever replaced the dome light door switch? I found the wire/broken switch hanging behind dash. What type of connector does it use? Mine appears to have the back half of the switch attached still.

Studying the 118" one based on the descriptions, feel free to weigh in?

It requires the specialty 3 terminal pigtail. LMC is where I got mine. P/N 47-0626

No idea on cable length. Do not want to remove for measurement. Wish it were more simple. Carpenter doesn’t jive with JBG in length

Much obliged on connector. I keep forgetting about LMC.

I'm going to measure mine tonight.

82” cable.
Thinking back, i dont think it was plugged into back of cluster all the way…went ahead and pulled apart and lubed with graphite lube. Confirmed speedo works and no bounce with drill
One less thing i got to buy. 17 tooth gear in there.
IMG_4133.jpeg

Haha! I’m gonna copy your homework!

What size tires, gear ratio and drive gear? Classic white/greenish?

Right now it has cracked 32’s and 3.50’s

Im guessing the 17 tooth gear is original but who knows?

Have not been able to test yet as it apparently cable was not fully seated in back of speedometer…the running theme for this truck..

TBD if i will still lift it and put the 35’s on it i have for it, or if ill steal the 285/65r16’s off the blue truck and the blue truck get the lift/tires.

I think the only variable on the cable would be the short tail/long tail 205 adapter. I cant remember what length difference was and what circumstance determined what truck they went in?

On the list/parts on shelf:
heater box, core, and blower
headlight switch
hook up cig lighter
gauge cluster backing/re-lamp
tach
AFR
oil pressure rework (might delete aftermarket gauge for now, TBD)
tag lights
door dome light switches
dome light assembly
headlight trim ring
rear brakes, wheel cyl & wheel bearings
E-brake cables
rear diff fluid
Wiper blades
straighten tierod

Got fuel sender adjusted correctly, gauge confirmed full sweep

Straightened front tie rod in press and checked toe its at 3/32”. Greased it and
Took for ride down road drives way better, speedometer now working as well (cable connected 🤣)
Tidied up wiring under truck a bit more.

Went ahead and pulled heater box, bearings in motorcraft motor seemed to be victim to the rat nest /piss in heater box. Will get cleaned up and put back together with new core and motor.

Ws going to try and salvage the motorcraft electric motor, appears the bushing is locked up on the shaft and has been spinning inside the housing

Interested if you can refurbish it. I saved mine just in case. The Chinesium motor from Napa makes noise that a new part should never make.

HVAC tape seemed fitting for this application. Got her cleaned up and put back together with new heater core.

China bomb motor installed.
Pulled out an old lighter and five 410 shells.
Got the cowl vacuumed out as well.

Haven't done one of these in about 25 yrs, last time i remember it being much harder and in worse condition.

I hope so,
There was another nest behind the cowl/floor vent on pass side kick panel.
Found the missing radio antenna wire back there as well, somehow it got pulled from it's grommet from behind the dash..

Changed out the gauge backing, was able to re-use the factory printed circuit. Looked way better than last one I had apart 20 yrs ago. Took time to clean up dust on gauges and learned the white paint will wipe off with water.

IMG_4310.jpg

A few of the gauges had studs held in with ****ty plastic, fought two to get apart, epoxied them and put back together. Somehow I messed up the coolant temp gauge internally, must have done something to the connection thru the mounting stud..
IMG_4311.jpg

Too cheap to buy replacement lense.

Cleaned up speedo where it was sticking.

While cluster was out took the opportunity to wire in the tach, went ahead and pre-wired for the oil pressure gauge light and afr gauge. I was able to utilize factory connections, Orange key on +, and Blue/red stripe instrument cluster lighting.
IMG_4341.jpg
tach is hanging down here to allow cluster in and out
IMG_4344.jpg

This led to the door dome light switches, got those installed and working. New dome light installed to replace the falling apart original, no picture.

Wife was able to get the radio antenna pushed back up thru the cowl and out under the dash where it goes.

Installed factory oil pressure sender, Will get a proper T and copper line in next.

Re-worked the engine harness to include tach wiring, redid the brake booster hose as well re-routed and cleaned up /secured the rest of engine harness and cab wiring connections.
IMG_4338.jpg
still not finished...
IMG_4336.jpg

Lastly worked over the factory headlight switch and got cluster light dimming mostly working proper, cleaned up connections on dimmer floor switch and now headlights are operational.

Ready to get this damn dash put together and move on.

Anyone have suggestion for cheap am/fm radio with bluetooth?

Lots of cheapo radios that function on the Amazon and eBay. What counts as cheap? The $20 unit I had worked fine for all the things, just less user friendly than the $100 name brand units

****, I didnt know single din radios could be had so cheap new.
I was still thinking 20 year ago prices from when I had last bought one.

Thanks

Starting to get the itch to paint stuff. Help me come to my senses.

Dome light is something I totally neglected to address. Never even fed the wires up there and now I really don’t feel like dropping the headliner.

Looks good all the ticky tacky items you’re addressing.
