Your driving a hydrostat. The only loss would be in a little bit of extra heat. Just back out of the swash a bit (pedal) and you get the torque back.Will drop torque though.
There is an idler towards the engine pulley.pushes a lot better than I expected
if the belt does get slippy, an idler on the back face of the belt between the alt and jackshaft pulley would increase belt wrap on both pullies
