Got a magneto rebuild kit for the Wisconsin, not cheap at $165. Should be what it takes to get it running though. Found the specs on the rear axle and it came out of a Bolens QT-16. The Bolens engine was rated at 3600rpm which is 400rpm higher than the Wisconsin (3200rpm). Need to hit that 3600rpm goal some how, a couple ideas on how to reach that. First, turn up the rpm on the the engine 400rpm or, overdrive the output via chain/belt drive. An overdrive will better align the shaft to the rear axle but will also bring down the horsepower output. At 12.5hp I dont want to lose any power.
That got me thinking, been watching a lot of lawn mower and small engine videos. Tons of aftermarket performance out there for these small engines, not for the Wisconsin particularly. The modifications are pretty simple though, shaved head, larger carburetor. The Wisconsin is 100% forged internals, pressurized oil system, a bump to 18-20hp+ shouldnt hurt it.

Your driving a hydrostat. The only loss would be in a little bit of extra heat. Just back out of the swash a bit (pedal) and you get the torque back.

Picked this up today, decided to keep the belt drive hydrostatic. 20hp, twin cylinder, should be plenty for the buggy. They sound pretty cool too.

It lives. Power is great, no more bogging and it is a lot smoother with less vibration. Need to build an exhaust for it, install some tire chains and rework the plow winch.

Got some tires with chains on and it is a plowing machine. Here is a video in about 7” of fresh snow.

Installed a muffler and worked on the idler pulley to keep the short belt from slipping. Also rebuilt the center pin for the front axle using a 3/4” 3pt pin, steers much better now. Have been using it a lot, here is a walk around video of the whole thing. Could use a longer main belt, the alternator isn’t too happy. Doesn’t a slip though, can push a lot of snow.

if the belt does get slippy, an idler on the back face of the belt between the alt and jackshaft pulley would increase belt wrap on both pullies

Got an old steering quickener from a circle track car. Reversed it so it is a 2:1 box. Should have done this a long time ago. It is much easier to drive now.
