RIP the 6.2 gasser!

Are they turbocharged and retrofitted diesel engines?

I dont know. They still move some serious weight without diesel fuel.

I bet they have spark plugs

Even towing with a 460 truck in the mountains I never had a tank full that low. It's almost impressive. 4.5 is what I expect from one of those ford 534 industrial motors.
1996 F250, 220k 5.8, and 4.10s. That truck was TIRED. 5mpg while towing the samurai. Hand calculated.

I looked it up. They don’t sound impressive. But maybe they’re back to doing legit R&D now because of DEF-DPF and California booting older **** out of the state. CNG which has half the energy potential of diesel and less than half the mile range. But you are right, there is a gas engine sort of competing with diesel fuel. A bus inside city limits, meh. What’s your speed limit and what’s your timeline of use?

I’ll put it this way, I can picture you and Arse driving them around flat lowlands thinking they are “equivalent”. When what I mean by a “Semi” that can hang. Is dads 600 hp 15L Detroit that cruises over Eisenhower in Colorado or Donner pass in California grossing 70K pounds at 75 mph effortlessly and has 1200 miles of range on two full tanks of fuel.

If the best we can do is a ford 7.3 vs a 6.7 psd or GM 8.1 vs a Duramax we aren’t even close to talking equivalent yet. I don’t want to race you with 30K pounds on a trailer inside city limits. I want you gasser guys to meet at the Mills mall in Denver with 30K pounds of trailer on your gas powered pickup and beat me to Vail Colorado. If that statement doesn’t mean anything to you, you don’t even know what a turbo diesel is capable of vs what a gasser is incapable of. Or for you DMG, meet me in Sacramento and race me to Truckee. Still got that V10?

you started this thread talking up a gas engine
For being a gas engine, not a diesel :flipoff2:

I'm a big fan of gas engines, there are spots where it makes sense to go to a diesel

For MOST people, probably 75% of people who "tow" with a 1ton or less, gas is just fine. But that's fine, somebody has to buy them diesels to keep the parts supply up in the junkyard and the mechanics employed :flipoff2:

And by 75% yes, I'm counting people who tow their little boat to the lake and such while not counting anybody paid for their services  if I find myself at a point where trailers are directly related to generating income, I'll probably swap over to the dark side as well

The V10 got too rusty so i sold it. I dont tow much right now so i use a 5.0/10 speed F150 or my E350 van.

I am not going to take that challenge. You are right about how things are. I am saying that if they put similar effort into R&D, they could develop gassers that tow like diesels.

Funny you mention Denver. Im at Denver airport.

I keep reading this thread thinking I'm going to be disappointed in the '18 6.2 F250 I got but it sounds like I made the right decision as I'm in the sweet-spot for:
  • how infrequently I'll tow (and the distance)
  • the weight I'll tow 9-10k
  • and how uncommon a trip over 1,000 miles will be

Thought about a 1/2 ton but I want to be able to throw a camper in the bed and tow my crawler without white-knuckling it. I think the longest trip I'll ever make while towing is across the country back to CA to wheel with buddies. I'm sure I won't be hauling ass up the mountains or anything but as long as it gets the job done. Been loving this truck so far.
My 20’ 7.3 fits my similar as yours needs very well.

I’ll roll 35,000 miles today. Just had to put the second set of new MT’s on it.

Since the "nobody makes a gas semi" thing keeps coming up, I see natural gas daycabs all over town. Clearly not dragging 100t excavators to the tops of mountains, but seem to be pretty good at moving cargo in a fairly flat area and I assume they refill at the depot

Emissions related downtime is a **********er at that scale
We have a ton of these in our fleet, they suck ass. Ever driven an F550 with a v10 but wished it wasn't so fast? LNG has you covered!

Medium duty stuff is similar, it runs but it's slow. Only HD trucks we have on it are the tankers that haul it.

Most refueling happens at the various yards. Big tankers live in the fleet maintenance yard.

Outside of the lanes collect more **** than the middle of the road, front tires kick it up on edge, back tires get punctured.

I got like 3 right rear trailer flats in a row, 4th axle, curbside didn't stand a chance

My enclosed trailer which is way wider than the truck that pulls it. I get right rear flats almost every time I pull it across the reservation. 🤔

I have never had the luck of having a tire ruined the day I put it on the truck (outside of racing). Tire made it 6 hours

I did last week, popped tire on compactor at 10 am on Monday. Tire guy puts a new tire on it at 6 am Tuesday.

11:55 am Tuesday, 4 hours after the new tire was put on this happens. :lmao: **** that machine.
