Not really. I found one of the past owners that raced it in tuff trucks in Del Mar in 2012. Got in contact with the guy that sold it to them and he said it raced in SCORE in the late 80s. No idea though.

I told myself not to touch it until I have this 4runner or the custom cab driving. The plan is to put the hybrid 20/22r in and just mess around in it. I’ve got a group of friends that ride pit bikes and now we all want prerunners. Kinda impractical for Texas lol

you captured my ADD the other day and i looked thru old baja photos that i could find on the web, found a couple solid axle extended cabs but nothing yellow and nothing with the rear down bars like yours

if you ever find a name or if it was another color or a specific event it was at ill look again

I don’t think it was yellow back then. Definitely a respray on top of white. Guys over on race-desert have said G.T. Gowland or Bill Burrows.
 
I got the steering box remounted yesterday and a buddy helped me build the steering links. Only took one picture and it doesn’t even show the progress lol. Front and rear shock mounts are next.

I left it at his house, so I’m tinkering with the 79 pickup and custom cab.

Got the front shocks on and pulled a couple more leafs out of the pack. Sits about 1.5” lower in the front now. Steering is fully mocked up as well.

Fully burned in. Went ahead and replaced the leaf pin with a grade 8 bolt for a little more peace of mind.

Mushroomed 7 of 8 lug studs on the other side, so those are ordered. Ordering brake line and fittings to make a better looking setup on the rear. Might be a driver by next weekend!
 
Finally back after it a bit. Had to shoot one of my dogs for attacking my daughter so took a bit of a hiatus. Anyway….

Rear discs are fully installed. Doing brake lines next.

Here is ride height after pulling leafs and cutting the rear block down an inch. Thinking I’m gonna cut it down another inch.

Been putting in some work!

Rear hard lines are in. I’m probably going to end up moving the mounts to the top of the axle.

Built a front driveshaft. Used some 2 3/8” drill stem.

Built an exhaust for it. Hangs a little low but it’s out of the way of everything. I’ll probably move it later.

Rear shocks are fully mounted as well. I ended Up going through the floor with the mount. Very user friendly now lol


Doing a shake down run this weekend out at Gilmer. I ordered a cage and sliders from 4xinnovations and they’ll be here tomorrow. I might get the sliders installed before the weekend.

I need to trim pretty bad. Also pulled the front driveshaft apart when it unloaded one time. Slipped it back together and kept it mild for the rest of the weekend.

Hey guys, havent done much work on this recently but i made the mistake of going to hammers. Quickly realized that this setup isnt all that great because of my limited trans and transfer case options (gearing). Im really leaning towards a 5.3/th400/atlas. Pricey but i figure it will be the best setup.

I'm wanting to keep it on leaf springs, because they party harder! and i have another truck that i want to do a link setup on.

Anybidy have any input?
