I don't recall bitching about lack of gussets. I just had a misunderstanding of what this thing was trying to haul. If you really want to memorialize me in this build you should either burn in CWP or Mystic as a shout out to my boatI’ve been a little busy but had some time this morning. I had to cut out Drummer79 ‘s swoopty gussets when I cut everything down, but I went back with these so he didn’t feel left out.

I believe you accused me of over enginerding the whole thing. Words hurt, Drummer.I don't recall bitching about lack of gussets. I just had a misunderstanding of what this thing was trying to haul. Most of you were just throwing out the general, run of the mill, misguided statements I’ve come to expect from the ignorant rabble that populate this place. I don’t think anybody but him actually used the term enginerd. That's half the people in this thread.![]()

If it helps your vagina stop hurting, I meant it as a compliment, kinda like the amazing fab skills some others have on here for monster trucks, etc.. instead of double penetration hay trailersMost of you were just throwing out the general, run of the mill, misguided statements I’ve come to expect from the ignorant rabble that populate this place. I don’t think anybody but him actually used the term enginerd.

There are usually 2 types of farmers.
1.Can build anything, takes care of equipment on the major points.
2.Can break anything, abuses the **** out of equipment and pieces it along with bailing twine or fence wire.
The problem is the two types are usually best friends, brothers or neighbors, sometimes a combination of those.
A couple guys I know have started with the “if you ever decide to make another one,” stuff. One of them is convinced that the sort of people who buy Hughes and Easley stock trailers would pay for one of these. I don’t think I want to be a hay trailer builder, but if somebody makes an offer after a couple years when I know for sure what I’d do differently I might sell it and build a better one.
I thought about different ways of making bolt on end pieces for different sized bales or just for taking them off for longer stuff. I went with the weld on tubes for now because it was the easiest way to get something rolling to see what works and it’s not hard to change it if I decide to later. I don’t have a need for it right away, but eventually I want to make a bolt in piece that bridges between the two cradles for hauling three bales. It’s one thing if it’s just a “income generating hobby”, tinker with building one of them at a time over the course of a month or so, sell it and make $3k. It’s another when you care about efficiency, a profitable hourly rate that matches your other income, etc.
I built a little utility trailer that solves 99% of the issues I’ve dealt with on trailers forever, it is freaking awesome. Guys that get it love it, but there are so many little details it would have to sell for ~ $7,500 or so unless I had cheap labor. I have no plasma table though.
One change I’d make to your design for versatility purposes would be having the cross braces on the hay bale cradles attach with pins. That thing looks like it would be awesome for hauling pipe, telephone poles, and even fence posts around ranches. Plenty long enough without being a massive trailer, high clearance so you aren’t dragging through ditches, and easy to unload.
I'm proud of you and the finished product. Most of you were just throwing out the general, run of the mill, misguided statements I’ve come to expect from the ignorant rabble that populate this place. I don’t think anybody but him actually used the term enginerd.

You could probably haul the space shuttle on that thing, but looks good and works as it should, over enginerded or not
