What did you do to your yota today?

Got reminded about the lack of rear bumpstops. Bent the rear factory bumper yarding on a jeep. Learned I have no running lights in the back now. :homer:
This poor thing needs lockers bad, probly do 4.88's while I'm at it.

kinda thinkin about being lazy an just getting everything ready to go from Eastcoast gear

I got my gears from ECGS, $1050 or something w/ free shipping around a holiday sale. Spartan locker was 270ish somewhere else I think. My truck came with a spare elocker and I picked up a spare front diff ($200) to build em while still driving the rig. The front is being a **** sucker with its odd geometry, not press friendly, and backlash is measured differently than the rear (I dont have that dial indicator style). Plus I ****ed up the inner pinion bearing so Im salty about that waiting till April for a replacement. :homer:

Looks like I'd be about $2k for 3rds with a spartan an a spool ready to go.

Today I drove it to work. 6am: 45min drive. Up and over the pass 28* when I left the house. It just got colder from there. Bikini top and soft doors; no heat. Surprisingly comfortable with a puffy, work coat and two pairs of gloves. Luckily no ice this morning.
Why would I do this cold drive? So I can use the work garage this weekend. I’m working on a set of tube fenders for my 40. I got a tube bender for Christmas and mangled passenger fender from last fall. Time to learn a new tool.

How did you **** up the pinion bearing? Need to know so I don't lol

I did it not paying attention. Below is what i tried to follow, Bearing spliter below pinion shims and bearing. Needed to remove 2 thou out of the pinion stack so I put the splitter in without thinking very much. Zipped the splitter tight with an impact and put it into the press. Ran it focusing on dumb **** (politics) and BAM.

Chasing down a front end clunk

Highlift + harbor fright jack stands 😲
Somehow managed to survive :flipoff2:
IMG_0256.jpeg

Replaced the SPC upper bjs with the new style, took half the clunking away

Looks like my steering rack guide is pretty worn, doesn’t seem to be a super urgent thing according to the internet so I can snail mail a new guide bushing to replace…sometime

IMG_0257.jpeg

Also threw on these used rack bars I scored for $20 :smokin: now I can use my yakima box again if I need to.

The manifold gasket is matchbook thick then the egr covers it.
I'd use some hi temp exhaust sealer garbage to seal it in .
Being in the prk (land of the smog Natzi') I have to have it "functional " :shaking: .
They make a delete kit for the 2 and 3 bolt mountings on the side and rear of the head.

This way its removable for testing...

Cleaned up the rear transfer case in my solvent tank, and glued everything together except the front shifter base. I'll stab those in from above. Shift linkage is adjusted and works as it should.

Gawd and I thought California dmv was the worst
Missouri is taxing it's citizens harder and harder right now. DMV also moved and cleared house. New lady is by the book, it seems, and is hammering everyone with everything.

****in nuts. Brand new 4Runner was just under grand to register in CO. I chose older rides and have never paid more than $150 in MO.

It's the prk disease I tell ya...
Me
I tested the injection system for why the intake was puddeled up...

Psa for pre 85 22r /e
celica 22re heads and intake are different .
Doing a gasket match I found my 15 bolt head from the celica and the 85 re plenum had different relief cuts for the injection ports.
I ****ed up and forgot to take pics.
But
The injector notch was opposite side of the head in 83.

Damn that sucks. ****ty design on both the 5 lug and 6 lug tacomas that the vehicle weight is trying to separate the ball joint by pulling it apart instead of press on it. I hate to be one of those guys but by the look of that tire I would say the LBJ has been on its way out for awhile now.

At least it doesn't look like you got much body damage, it's like 50\50 on how the tire folds if it goes up into the back edge of fender.

Topped off the oil level with 20w-50. Half quarter dramatically reduced the piston noise at first start up...

For fun I went on fmbp and there isn't a decent 3rz for under like 2k. 2 of them were 1k with zero compression.

This is my 3rd 5 lug, plenty of long distance trips (knock on wood). Too bad I learned too late . I was planning on the front end suspension refresh for June NYS inspection-

The even ****tier part of the design is that you really cant tell if a LBJ is bad by looking at it or using a pry bar. We have had 3 first gen tacos lose LBJs randomly in varying situations. 2 of 3 with pretty catastrophic results. Garbage design.

is it painted black or leaked that much over the years?
Ha! The bell housing and parts of the tcase are painted black. But there is definitely a lot of oil all over it. The rear output seal is bad for sure, the front output weeps, the sm420 top cover leaks, the valve covers on the 350 dump oil out of the back….. This things is NOT oil tight currently.
