Picked up this ‘51 3A and 50ish M38 that a buddy had for a very reasonable price. (800 beans for boffum)

The M38 is well molested and is really only good for parts in my opinion. But some purist will get in their jimmys over it.

Another buddy’s dad wants a flattie, and we’re trying to convince him it’s a terrible idea that leads you down to dark places. But, he wants it.

I commenced to fiddling and cleaned the gas tank out that someone installed at some point in time, cleaned the plugs, installed and adjusted new points, and made sense of the cobbled wiring to make the starter work.

Fiddled with the carb. The WO Carter was gone, but had a solex in place that seemed to be missing some parts, so I got a new solex, and made it run more güüder. It hazes a bit, but runs fairly decent for old crap.

Currently ordering brake hydraulic parts so it will stop on its own, along with its first test drive in the yard.

Rooney77 dont get in your jimmies because it has a key now.

That’s awesome, I’ve always wanted a flatty to cruise around town in and make the occasional trip to the rubicon in.

Edit. Don’t paint it!

My offer to trade you my boat for it stands. The boat has a ***le. You know that jeep doesn't. 😁

Look, I have enough old Jeep junk laying around, and a boat. I don’t need, nor want a boat. Boats are more of a pain in the ass than these old crusty jeeps.

And actually, I do have a ***le for this one, thank you very much. I bonded it.

So, on today’s episode of I don’t know what I was thinking….

I drove this little turd around the yard, and the transmission or transfer case doesn’t sound happy. In its defense, I haven’t checked the fluid, but I’ll get around to it….eventually.

I knew from the first time I fired this turd up that the head gasket was popped, as the water in the oil, and the combustion gas detector fluid kit confirmed, so I pulled the head, and it was a bit of a bitch, as half the nuts came off, and half the studs came out.

I busted out my handy dandy stud removal tool, and proceeded. Every stud came out, except one that broke. Not the end of the world. So I drilled it out, however, I’m a dumbass and drilled it off center. I’m hoping my straight extractors, chemicals, and some persuasion get it out so I can install new studs, gaskets, and put this old girl back together.

Head gasket was definitely roached in a few spots, and looks possibly original. Either way, it will definitely improve the running of the engine. I’ll probably go ahead and pull the exhaust and intake since I have new gaskets for it, and lash the valves as the engine has quite a valve tick that’s annoying me.

Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't notice the .030 pistons. Bores look good with no scaring, so, its going back together as is.

Got a little more done to it, the new HG solved the overheating and coolant push issues it was having. Now I’m waiting on a new fuel tank, lines, and the brake parts.

The one that you say is good for scrap only is better than most here. Hang onto it for a few years, I may need another project :flipoff2:

Would be a nice body to drop on a Roxxor rolling chassis.
That has been in the back of my mind for a while.
