Suspension design concept, will this work?

It’s “finished” in that it’s driving, just got it smogged last week so it’s street legal now :grinpimp:. The coilovers were tuned to run with sway bars (which I was planning to add in the future) but after its first drive I realize I should add those sooner rather than later, it gets a little leany even on mild corners. Other than that, it’s handling well so far with the limited street driving I’ve done.

Fenders need a major trim so that’ll be the next step. I probably won’t be able to really drive it or test the suspension until I make it out to the desert (maybe around Christmas?). I plan to be at KOH so definitely by then we’ll see how it handles.

I hear ya on sway bars, I had one in the plans but had to put one in sooner rather than later.

Do you have pics from the rear to see how low the mounts sit and pics of the tubing/spindle setup? I am very interested in this. I have 14's up front and 12's out back but the 12's hang down. This is a badass solution and seems simpler then a traditional cantilever.
 
06h3 looking through my photos on my phone I don’t have the best photos (the first was to show the gas tank swap, the second was for the exhaust shop). I can take whatever photos you’d like when I get home from work this evening.

Yes. 2” OD 0.12 wall DOM. Spindles are from Trail Gear, from their swing-out spindle kits (I’ll get you more photos later).
 
Looks good. I just did similar setup on my f150 BUT I ran the shock behind the axle with a 1.7 motion ratio.

Why not integrate the sway bar into this?
I originally wanted to do this. It would be awesome to use the same unit bearings as my 04 SD60 front axle. Unfortunately those unit bearing are massive and would have ate into the cab, same with smaller D44 locking hubs. In the end I was more concerned about keeping the cab in-tact so using something more low-profile made that possible. If I had the space though I would’ve gone this route.

I just read through your thread. Awesome job on the cantilever! Way more performance than mine!
 
I am a noob on motion ratios, trailing arms, cantilevers. Anyways....

The yellow part is strictly for strength I assume? The pink line....closer together is less motion ratio and farther apart more motion ratio?

The reason I ask is I have very wide frame rails. I have my coilovers inside the frame rail on the rear. My coilovers hang down. While they havent been a huge hang up yet I wonder what long term looks like and seeing the additional height of the bracket under the body would probably negate any savings in height gained.

Either way, for your application it worked killer!!

As the top mount of the coilover moves closer to the hub, the coilover is compressing / extending more as the axle moves up / down, thus the MR is reduced.

Wide frame rails might make it too tough to package unfortunately, mine barely clears (I had to notch the frame slightly or else the coilover spring would contact the frame while flexing, you can see that in the photos a few posts back).

Yes, see post #190 for why I used spindles instead of an integrated sway bar.
 
I can't find any photos but you could run sway bar below the cantilever arms with ita own arm and a link connecting the sway bar to cantilever arm so you don't need it going all the way down to the axle.
