Rocklight kit, or buy individual lights?

The 51st state.
So looking for a better option for night wheeling lights.

I had installed one of them Rgb Bluetooth kits. Friggen garbage lasted about 1 year. And the white light was almost purple and the yellow sucked ass.

So I'm looking for opinions on a 6 or 8 light kit for my Scout II.

I'm a cheap **** so amazon deals are the best, or hobo fraught/ princess auto.

No sponsored guy Kc, hella, grote, baja, ****. Not playing 24 hell and back YouTube ****.

Just want decent lights on a switch all tied together with no gay colors.

What y'all say?
 
Watching this thread. I’m in the same boat.
I have some 4x4 led lights I get from work but they’re kinda big.
 
the modular ones suck, the cords are either too long or too short, and when you buy extensions you end up with a ton of excess, and a stupid control box to deal with.

my son bought me a set like that, I ran all the wiring through the frame and it took a god damn week to sort it out.
 
I'd probably just build it

I kinda liked having 2 pods that point down and forward or backwards from the wheel wells on my last rig. Then just small single leds to fill the gap.

Like 1 of these in each wheel well.

Then small singles to fill in under the cab and where ever else. I noticed a while back it's nice to ha e rock lights under there to see when you're working on something also.

I like the idea of the tiny round lights, but some times the 2 bolt style is just easier.

Fwiw, I'm just giving examples, I haven't bought any of these, except maybe the small pods.

That and they have like 10 4000g wires in there, so good luck extending or shortening them. I do kinda like having the option for red for when you're with a group who actually wants to have thier eyes adjust instead of just trying to light the whole world up.
 
I bought some lights like these small strip lights and some little round lights and wired them up with 22 gauge duplex wire. Its been at least ten years and whenever one goes bad, I just replace them. Cheap and easy.

I put the lights on magnetic home brew mounts that hold damn well

I bought a similar kit from tractor supply while at trail hero in 22 :laughing:

It was like $65 and thought it was kinda funny. But ya, not a great option.

One nice thing about wiring led rock lights is the draw so little, you can just 1 wire and tee off of it, then ground with a screw. Probably not text book, but also not a huge deal if one rock light isn't working.

this is the kit, I would have done white separate lights but they were a gift and he was excited about it.

Ya I'm not running anything with a control box and those stupid wire harnesses.

Every light will get one 12+ wire and will be grounded to the frame at the light.

Those 4" ones are too long for what I've already fab'd up for brackets

Found these too, look better then the little round penny light ones.

LUX lighting, they are made in Oregon and you can get solid discount when they are on sale, or sometimes in the bargain area. I think I got 4 for 80 shipped. Magnet mounted.

They look decent. But show no install photos, I get they are magnetic so you can put em wherever. Will they stick to rock/raptor liner?

Plus they show no stock of anything in White.

Except these actually serve a purpose. I quite like the added light when spotting people at night.

I can't stand when the jeepers and bro dozers. Put them up high inside the wheel wells and then have the tire block 80% of the light coming off them. Called out a few jeepers for it.

No, they won't stick to undercoat or liners (which blocks heat transfer)

High quality stuff. I was gifted a kit of 8, else I wouldn't spend $ on this type of fluff.

Is that almost too bright? You just run 4 of them? I don't mind that idea. Actually have a pair of those as my ditch lights. Far from waterproof though. Would be easy to mount for sure drill a hole in frame and tap and mount.

1 on each corner and covered by part of body keeps the light nicely on the ground. Used existing holes in front fender and rear body support bar. Fronts point fwd in front of tires and rears point rearward but mounted in front of tires. Also got 1 mounted on rear of cage to light up toolbox.

Mine are triggered by the factory jeep fog switch on light stalk. No relay, factory fog fuse should blow if there is an issue.
 
I bought the VisionX Tantrum rock light kit probably 10 years ago and it still works great. I made my own metal brackets that sandwich the light pods and have a magnet on the back. Just looked up the same kit and it is $71 for 8 lights, control box, distribution box and wireless fob which I think is still a good bang for the buck.

Can't find them for under $175-220 cdn. And I don't want anything with a control box. I want stupid simple.
 
I know you said no KC but I like my cyclones. Didn't buy the kit just purchased individually, ran wire to a dist. block I put on the firewall and a cheap switch on the dash. Different lenses so pick your color.

I ran a very similar light mounted low on my shock hoop pointing forward and down. It was nice because I could use them in lieu of head lights when crawling. Where the little single ones put off a nice glow, but don't really shine well out front.

Which is why I used both.
 
I have a ton of Rigid A series rock lights from an old project.
The lights themselves are great. The wires are garbage, too thin and can get damaged or pulled out like pretty much all the same style lights. Whichever brand you get I would epoxy or silicone the wires to the back of the light for waterproofing.
I was going to run a red circuit and a neutral white circuit but decided to only use the neutral white lights.
The CRI and tint is the most important part of a rock light as it is easier to see what is being illuminated when in the white spectrum.
Red is cool if you let your eyes adjust as well as for dust.
If anyone wants red lights DM me, they are on a fire sale as I don’t need them.
