Finally got around to pulling my mom’s smartcar out of the connex. Of course it was all the way into the front because why not.

My brother has a mini skidsteer that perfect for lifting the sleds to clear the path to get it out.

Damn thing was sitting in there for 2+ years and a small jump she was purring like a 70hp powerhouse.

Plan is to bolt a set of utv tracks to it. This time I have acquired a set of 2:1 portals from Blacksheep10. That will solve the over torque issues we were having from version one. I picked up a set of used ca wide plastic skis for the front.

With the 6” of lift the portals are gonna give it I’m gonna see if we can put the tracks on the opposite way we did the first one. That should help get more weight on the tracks and less on the skis.

Should be a pretty quick build other than I need to source a set of rzr brake calipers for the portal boxes. The stock rear brakes will be removed.

I put my brother in charge building the rear bumper so we can toss an ice auger on it when he goes ice fishing.

Catching the ice is just a cover story for catching drunk

The hard part of ice fishing is drinking your beer before it freezes

See this guy lives in wi. He knows the tactics and struggles :lmao::flipoff2:

Fwiw I live near the top 10 drunkest city in all of the country. :lmao::homer:

A quick drawing some cnc plasma cutting and a little machining and this will be the first smart car with portals on it :lmao:.

I’ll just remake this plate with the unit bearing bolt pattern on it. Should be easy peasy.

Just contemplating if I should put a boss like the unit bearing was so it takes the load vs just the 4 bolts.

Rzr cv top smart car cv bottom. A cut and sleeve and I should get that to work. We are only dealing with 70hp going down hill :lmao:.

I vote for the bearing pocket.

convenient the shafts are so nearly the same size
Three options for that plasma the bitch out of 1/2” mill down the whole **** other than the little boss.

Machine a ring to weld into a 3/8 plate to make the boss

**** the boss and weld another bracket on the car to help the 4 bearing bolts.

if it would be a problem having the whole thing being thick, weight I guess if you don't want to use Aluminium, then I vote for #2 and machine the hole, then machine and weld a ring to the back. Seems to be the quicker and easier option

Yeah do not have aluminum plate on hand. This is a use what I find laying around type project. :lmao:

Adapter plate. Gonna eat some supper and head over by my brothers to get them cut out tonight. Ain’t got time to **** around :lmao:

So who can school me on calipers for these portals? I believe Blacksheep10 said they came off a rzr 900 or 1000 unsure of the year.

Burnt the plates out. Ended up ****ing up one hole location so will have to recut tomorrow :homer:

The arctic cat tracks are a 4 on 112 pattern the rzr are 4 on 156 so I just picked up an adapter and tossed a 2” spacer in there to get it away from the portal box.

Didn’t get it far enough needs another 1/2” or the track trimmed a 1”.
IMG_9136.jpeg

now for the big choice what orientation do I mount the box. Straight down she will be really big.
IMG_9138.jpeg

I’m thinking more like this at a 45 towards the front. The portal boxes move them far enough out that it should clear the body.

I could spin the tracks around 180 and put the steep side to the front also. I would rather keep them in this orientation.

Looking at razor stock brakes on eBay they’re pretty cheap. I want a set for my golf cart build.

for the rears though, why not just run a thin large balloon of a tire instead of a full track and portal box setup  don't really even need brakes back there

Hard to brake with skis up front :lmao:. Need to have one axle with brakes on it.

The smart car doesn’t make enough power to turn big tires let alone have the room to put a big tire. The portals are for the gear reduction, the tracks also provide some reduction. We only have 70 hp of fully automated manual to work with lol.

shows you what I know, thought the tiny thing was front wheel drive and getting driven tracks up front

well then, skis up front makes sense
