I have run a small construction business in Southwest Colorado for the last 21 years. We specialize mostly in fairly high-end remodeling projects, but also do some new construction and shop-based work.

We are currently looking for full-time carpenters at all skill levels. Skilled laborers start at $20/hour and potential pay for other positions varies widely according to your particular skill set, transportation & tooling.

Shoot me a PM or let your friends know.

My dad is a general contractor in NC. If your backlog of work looks like his you should he able to pretty much name your price right now. My dad has raised his prices considerably (a lot due to increased costs but a lot also simply because he can) and he still has a 4-6 month backlog. Anyone around here who doesn't have a significant backlog ain't worth a ****.

My point is that you should be able to pay more and you're gonna have to. Anyone you're gonna be able to hire either ain't worth a **** or is quickly going to take and accept a better offer.

Maybe I wasn't clear...

"Laborers" start at $20. We'll basically try anyone for this rate.

Last laborer was making $26 and the scale goes up from there. If someone is a master carpenter and wants to relocate with all their tools and truck, there is money on the table and plenty of work to be done. Booked many months out and one or two big jobs (currently on the horizon) would put me out a year or more.

No cash or 1099 BS. You get paid on payroll every two weeks. Time and a half for anything over 40 hours/week, but we try to work a straight 40. Bonuses and commissions available. Covered by work comp and we have an IRA match.

if you want master carpenters to relocate with all their tools and truck it would probably be helpful to entice them with an actual number
If a Master Carpenter was interested he would probably pm the op with info on his experience and skill set and see what kind of an offer he got. Who in the **** would want to talk wage numbers on an internet forum :shaking:

Any of you fools know what a "laborer " onna jobsite is?
Now I was payin $10 hr +- 20 yrs ago for gruntwork...

he posted $20 for laborers but cant post a number for a master carpenter :homer: ok

Is there some kind of accepted universal standard for what a Master Carpenter is?
have no idea, i was simply offering a suggestion to the OP to help him get more responses and you had to come in and try to **** all over me for some odd reason, feel free to go **** yourself :flipoff2:

Most of the labourers I work with have more training and skills than the carpenters. Also probably about 39% are better carpenters than the carpenters. Pilebucks claim they're carpenters too when it's over water. Just don't expect them to cut anything without using a chainsaw.

A Master Carpenter fixes his mistakes better than a regular carpenter. :lmao:

Question on your username, are you in Scouting?

I don't know about other places but around here anyone who knows his **** about building (and some that don't) have their own "construction company" :stirthepot:

I think I retired at just the right time, I would hate to have to hire or try to hire a good employee or two nowadays.

There is still tons of work going on here so I'm told.
Good luck on your quest.
What is the elevation there?

That all depends who you ask! I know guys who think they are but are not "masters" of anything and I know a few who are but are too humble to put themselves out there as such.

You posted: "Skilled laborers start at $20/hour..."

Not trying to be a **** or nitpick, but if posted an ad like that somewhere I'd skip right over it because it comes off like you're looking to hire a professional tradesman at McDonald's wages and want them to provide their own truck, tools, etc. It comes off like a guy looking to 1099 hire drunks and felons, not a business owner looking to hire actual professionals. If you want serious applicants, you should really post the company name, actual benefits, actual pay ranges, and other relevant job info. No one wants to play a guessing game when they're looking for another job.

Good luck. We have a request in for 30 carpenter's at $38/hr, plus the best benefits package of any trade union in town and can't get guys. So does the other big commercial outfit in town, and the two smaller commercial companies have smaller requests in. Radio ads, Spotify, billboards...we still only gained 6 members last month. Everyone who wants to is subcontracting at $55-85/hr depending on what they're doing and where. And tradesman who isn't working, doesn't want to.

and anyone thats gonna jump ship might do so if he posted a number to entice them, but apparently thats a dumb idea

or the number is low and it wont work

Since you were so curious I thought that maybe you considered yourself to be one or knew something about carpentry and could share your wisdom, but you were just trolling.
