It's been 40 years...

I seem to remember it happened on a Saturday. I also remember watching it on our old console TV at home.

I was a senior. Happened during electronics class. We got a few semi-working TV's out of the project room and set them up. Teachers and students stopped in the rest of the day.

Left school early and took my driver's test that day.

I'm pretty sure I'm watched that live in school and someone had to scramble to turn it off when it started blowing up

My entire elementary school was outside watching it. Got to see the different smoke trails go off in different directions. It was a little different experience than on TV since there’s no turning off the sky.

I was in metal shop. I feel like because it was a teacher getting sent up they had us all watching on TVs; or maybe our shop teach got a tv and had it on because he didn't feel like yelling at us as we tried to kill ourselves in the shop. I do recall watching it go and break up, and he shut off the TV and said we should go get stuff done in the shop.

Why would they turn it off? It's a learning experience and needs to be talked about.

I never shielded my children from death or the realities of life.

I was working as an apprentice in a ***anium foundry when that one happened. It was sad. NASA wasn’t as infallible as we thought. I remember seeing an engineering paper on how many ways we all trust our lives to rubber o-rings.
On the bright side, our son was born a few days later.

I was in kindergarten. Remember the whole class was sitting on the floor watching the tv. I remember think what a bummer but couldn't really understand why people were crying and parents were coming to pick up their kids. My dad is a chemical engineer so after it happened he really got into reading about the cause and explaining it to us kids. Wish I had paid more attention.

We didn't have it on in electronics class. Shuttle launches were routine by then, five years in. We only found out about it when a teacher came into the electronics lab and told us.

Wiki sez 135 launches and 133 successes. Columbia was a successful launch, it was the reentry that was bad...

Weird. Was a Tuesday. Maybe you were home sick that day or something?

Prior to launch, do you remember if you were watching cartoons, or Price is Right?
always price is right bro.

also, price is right is free to watch on the internets now.
none of this drew carrey bull**** either. I have nothing against drew carrey, but price is right belonged to bob ****ing barker.

I was 4, and I do not recall watching this live.

Geez I’m old. Was in high school when that happened. I think it was 3rd period Spanish class the teacher wheeled out a tv so we could watch.
Geez, I'm REALLY OLD! I had already done 6 years in the Navy and went back to commercial printing by then!
We heard it on the radio and someone turned on the TV. Sad day for sure. RIP

Back when we smoked cigarettes in the grocery stores, hospitals, restaurants, etc.

I was 6 years old....I remember asking my Dad if maybe they put the missile launch button right next to the gas pedal and the driver hit the wrong one?

RIP astronauts

Was in middle school watching it on TV mounted up in the corner of the room we used to watch moves and big events on. We didnt have memes back in tje day, but I think it only took a day or two for the jokes.

"How do you know Crista McAulife had dandruff"

They found her head and shoulders floating in the ocean.....

RIP

I was 18 and I remember it happening but I wasn't watching and honestly have really no idea WTF I was doing.
