I got this 1981 Hilux from my neighbor a while ago and only really use it for long trips anymore. Thought I'd post up about them before I eventually do the frame off on it. I'm treating this as a blog post, so I'm okay with chatter.

The day I picked it up with 90,000 miles and the condition that it is never sold.

First job was to install a radio.

Then started hauling whatever fit in the bed and some stuff that would ride on top of the bed.

An entire samurai body will fit in the bed of this thing.

Got sucked into an auction and picked up almost a ton of stuff from NC and drove it home,

I picked up a 4wd cab for the front end stuff.

But after I picked it up, I realized what it was like underneath.

Hauling logs to the mill.

Most recently, it delivered stuff 750 miles round trip on $97 in gas.

Nice to see a clean survivor.
Even hard to find those for parts trucks here anymore, but I'll be looking...

I had one real similar to that one many years ago.

My dad gave it to me and I had no ****s to give a out it back then, I wish I had it now not that my fat ass could fit in it
Nice!

I don’t fit in this thing. I kinda wear it when I get in it. But it was something in my childhood, so it’s pretty sentimental.

Another trip in this sewing machine.

7 hours of driving on $30 in gas to pick up an engine and drop it off on the way home.

Old Suzuki guy had a pretty cool 300CD

Hopefully next week I’ll be hauling a set of 44 swampers back out there and picking up more parts.

I took a 1st gen 4x4 outta place that looked like that for like 1k. Ended up having 5.29 gears and whatnot, made money...

Thanks.

If one of you southern/western guys ever find a cheap 8' bed and or body panels, I'd probably drive it out there. This is the cleanest one of these trucks around because it wasn't driven in the snow.

whats cheap?

Transportation of controlled substance with intent to distribute is what I'd have guessed.

Yeah, I thought that it would be something about not having enough straps on it.

Nope. I lost the ***le and filed another one at the dmv and the clerk typed one of the numbers wrong and invalidated my plates. VIN check sorted it out and it made the 5 hour trip up to PA.

Started out Saturday morning with the super dukie and 2.0 for Flesheater’s buggy.

Made it 20 minutes away and got stopped for my license plates not being on dmv records….

Made it to PA in 5 hours

Saw arse :flipoff2:

On the way back, I stopped in at Falling Waters, it’s just a glorified tourist trap.

Came back through Mt. Storm

And to finish it off, I got stopped AGAIN! Same problem….

Monday's adventure was nothing less than special (ed). :flipoff2:
To start off, I was given an atm and 2 coin counting machines for free. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do with them, but they were free.

I drove off through WV and into MD to pickup an nv5600 swap for the new truck.

What followed was 2 hours of insanity driving around in MD with the FBMP seller trying to located all the parts that he said came with it.
From here on out, I'm gonna start using a camera to record these encounters so people believe that these actually happen.

First we left to meet up with a farmer at his house to unlock the gate to the farm were the truck was, and on the way, witnessed what I can only describe as a creeker* sponge bathing herself on her front porch under a green porch light. I think we were both baffled about what exactly we saw. No pics, sorry.

Then we drive to the farm to look for the parts. I was happy I saw the totaled truck that they came out of and verified that it was in "decent" condition. Then we drove past a second location to look at an " 80's big block chevy short bed 5 speed truck" that he'd sell for $2,000. It was a 1980 C50. We only drove past it because he was afraid we would get shot if we pulled onto the property. :homer:

Finally, we rounded the night off with a tour of the full fledged machine shop just over the hill from his house. It had a 2'x20' American lathe, a 24" shaper, and a tone of random stuff. I got home at midnight.

Creeker = Hippy who lives near a creek, normally in a shack.

Years ago I was out through the countryside and happened to look over as I passed a house. The housewife was out back hanging laundry on the line in her panties. She just waved. Made my day...

I need to get back on my old Toyota and finish up a few things been on the back burn over a decade :shaking: . Cool to see your putting in work with yours

It’s crazy what some people want the world to see.

Get on it man. No time like the present to have the cheapest of fun. I need to adjust the valves and fix the exhaust rattle, but that is cheap compared to crawling or anything else.
