VE day

Let me know when we get to VJ day. My grandfather was at the hospital in DC in the morning for my dad's birth, then the pentagon later in the day on Aug 14 1945. VJ day is Aug 14 in the US, Aug 15 in Japan.

I like to think that my dad being born scared the Japanese into surrendering :dustin::flipoff2::usa:

Also, my grandfather flew recon in Europe, but had been back stateside for almost a year for VE day.

He had a shell go through his wing about an inch from his fuel tank on one mission. Flew the rest of his missions with a 6" round piece of tin from where the shell went through on a cord around his neck. It was hard to get him to tell me much of what happened over there. I was a kid fascinated with war, and he was a retired Brigadier General that didn't like to talk about the actual war. He wanted to talk about the mess hall, and other training incidents, rather than actual combat. One of those real men, who saw stuff, who didn't talk about it.

I miss him.

Do you know what plane he was in; recon fighter or bomber?

One of Mrs relatives was there too, I'll have to look him up in the family Veteran book. 🇺🇸
I know a guy that retraced his family members (grandpa, dad maybe I am not sure)
he went across Europe basically the path that his squadron(?) platoon(?) traveled I don't know the Army talk very well
it looked really interesting, including seeing the old trenches, and ponds that are actually military impact points

it looked neat, and I want to do it

One of Mrs uncles or cousins did that with their immediate family a few years ago. Mrs has a huge family, her dad is the "Baby". There are a lot of Navy and Marine Veterans, and a couple of us Army guys 😋
