Something funny... the original War Pig was a bastard - a 1978 Ford F350 4x4 with rot, too much bondo, a shitty drive train and a Chevy square body, LWB bed on it... it got what I had at the time, as I was poor as fawk. It leaked oil, ate starters but was my daily driver in 2000 while I tried to restore a CJ7 rot box I had. It's the truck that caused me to hate Fords. My GF (now wife) could change the starter on it in 3 mins.

I've had many like that since then. In late 2000's I'd seen better pay checks, so I had a run of nice new trucks, etc. I still miss my 2015 Denali 3500HD crew cab that I sold to put my kids through college and didn't really need.

War Pig V6, also known as Big Ugly made me love this body style. That's the truck I wish hadn't gotten away.

So where does that leave us?

Well, I have War Pig V10, a 2002 Dodge Ram that is many colors, as I swapped on rust free body panels. It's a 360 gas job, auto that we restored on the fly... but really isn't enough truck.

So, let's get to the point. War Pig V12. (I skipped 11, suck it up)

A former firetruck, 1974 IH Travelcrew cab on a P30 on a high gvw chassis with a 9' utility bed on it. The former builder did a TPI 350 and 700R4 in the chassis. Rear axle is a factory P30 Dana 70 with 4.56's. It's on 19" rims with 235 series tires right now.

It uses the TravelCrew VIN, with a 34.4K GCVW.

The guy I am buying it from wants the TPI350 and I don't. So as part of the deal, he is pulling the engine and trans.

The truck needs to tow, stop and turn well.

The plan:

8 lug F350 SD 60 front. This is a P30 chassis, which is 6" wider WMS to WMS in the front. All factory link, coil and shock locations, using a WFO radius arm kit I already own.

Sterling 10.5, disk brakes, etc.

Both with 4.33 gears, the rear has an e-locker, front will be LSD. The cab already has hydro boost brakes.

Engine: Hopped up Duramax LB7 with 4" exhaust.

Trans - I have a 2wd 6 speed Allison.

T-case - I have a Ford Divorced NP205 - Will get 1410 front and rear output yokes, with a big assed 1550 input to matching the MDT Allison

Tires - 41" All terrains, on 20" rims... that will handle the weight.

Suspension: WFO Radius Arms, a Tracinator pan hard bar, F350 coils and shocks, rear is a shackle flip with drop down spring mounts and the P30 springs with all the overloads off. Will also do bags as bump stops and weight handling.

Really plush interior - Cadillac XT5 seats - will sound deaden the heck out of it. Nice double DIN head unit with all the phone plug ins. Big sound, big comfort, rear bench flips into a bed. Nice door panels, power windows, power door locks, Vintage Air and Dakota Digital gauges.

Body - will sand blast it, removing all 8+ coats of paint. It was originally a fire truck, so supposedly no rot. We'll see. Unlike War Pig, the original, no bondo all metal body is a requirement. Will paint it a classic color from the 60's, as it's titled as a 68.

Use: Will support my business, doing auto restoration and vehicle manufacturing. So will get a crane, a welder, an engine driven air compressor, etc. A winch in front - think vehicle recovery with a bad back/hip. The trailer on the back end will probably never come off... so we will do an integrated brake controller that ties into the ECM, brakes and trans controller.

The seller and I plan to get this to me on Oct 15th, 2020. I have several other builds in the way, so it will sit until the spring. I already have most of the parts.

So some pics. I don't have any of War Pig, the original... but here's War Pig 6 (big ugly) and 10, the Dodge. Plus pics from the seller.

Will update this when I get it and when I get on it... and the thing is, I want to build this more than some of the others in the que.

Oh and for all you guys telling me what to do with it? Send a check or parts, or keep your pontification to yourself. :flipoff2:

I present to you, Big Ugly, the 2nd of her name, 12th War Pig.

wait. that first pic that's not the truck that got traded through a few people on here, was it? Originated from NH or VT? someone bought it and roadtripped it to somewhere west? kept breaking down and stuff?

It was on PBB. From my home state of NH. I auctioned it to fund Jeff Watt's(CamaroGenius) recovery, but then he died, so we road tripped it for funeral expenses.

Thought it looked familiar. Was curious whatever happened to that truck.

How much for that service truck? That would fit my program as is lol

The funny thing is, about a year ago, I bought a Dodge NP271 when the NP241HD in my 2002 wouldn't shift... I didn't know the 271 would not fit between the frame rails, so I stuck it out back.

Haven't fit it up yet, but I think it's a 29 spine input, meaning that it bolts onto the Allison I have on my floor. It's brand new. I also bought a Ford NP271 cheap, to use as SYE parts, but not sure I really need to.

Hauling the t-case to check.

Oh and I bought parts to go on a M715 that was supposed to be built in Texas... and it didn't happen. So all the parts went on my trailer down and back again. Booger, Jeff's F250 hauled the trailer up here with scooter2374 driving it.

I got the axles, with all the brackets and such to go onto it. Almost like I planned to do this.

Going to be a nice build. You should have a wide enough frame for a NV271 with the P30 chassis. I once bought a ZF6/NV271 combo I was going to stick in an older rig until I actually measured the frame and 271. :homer:
A GM 8.1, Allison 6 speed and NV271 is a really really nice choice of powertrain.

Did the SD60 and Rear dana axle come out of the same truck?

From what I've read, the 10 lug F550 axles were all Dana S110s. No outward difference between the S110 and S135. Only differences are the ring gear diameter and axle spline count. Hubs and bearings are the same, with exception of 8 lug and 10 lug, but the 8 lug and 10 lug hubs use the same bearings. S135s supposedly came in F550s up till 04, but my late 04 has a S110 just the same as the 05 parts truck I stole the axles from. There are no tags on the MDT dana axle housing, or other identifiers, you can use to identify the specific gear ratio, locker/LSD option or 110vs135. Only way to see what ratio/carrier it has are the VIN and equipment tags from the donor truck.

Point is, don't base your capacity calculations on how the rear axle looks. It may well be a Dana S110.

Yes.

Either a 10.5 Sterling, Dana 110, Dana 130 or Dana 135 will meet the needs of this truck. I guess I should run the BOM.... thing is, if it breaks, it will be upgraded. I have other bigger axles.

Am I the only one who came in here thinking you were building a V12 powered tow rig? Yes? damn lol. Truck looks to be good starting platform and I like the axle choice, funny enough I was also thinking while reading that a 10 lug F550 would be the D110 (still plenty of axle lol). I had a 04 6.0-6spd manual truck that was the 8 lug D135 4.88 so they must have used both in last year depending on engine\GVW etc. The 8.1 would be good engine to start with if gas V8 is the way you want to go, remind me do you have a problem with diesel's? if not a duramax with mild tune will get you the power you want and decent MPG or if your wanting to play around a bit and be different duramax with blower on it instead of turbo.

Nothing against diesels. I currently own a Cummins, a Ford and a GM based diesel. I have a few,

I am putting a Duramax into a 1942 G506 on Axletech 4000s. There's a thread for that here I should probably update.

The engine will depend on what I have on hand, when I get there. Right now, it's looking like a gas 8.1 - 450hp, 600ft lbs of tq... and gas is cheaper than diesel.

I have the axles and also the 19.5" Alcoa's that came with those. Again, don't really care if it's a 110 or 135. A D80 is enough for what I am doing.

Oh and V12 means version 12... which is why I talked about V1 and V6, etc. so I fixed that in the title.

A War Pig - a bastardized truck that does work for my family. This one will be #12 of that line.

No problem on the V12 I figured you meant version, though a v12 tow pig would be different if you found a decent motor to use. On the diesel thing I just couldnt remember if you had a aversion to them or not, I know some guys hate them with a passion while some cant live without them. I hear ya on the D110, its more axle than most people would ever need and overkill for most builds.

That's what I thought when I saw the title. To be fair, Grendel has demonstrated he has the money and know how to build what he wants. So it's not out of the question.

What ever happened to the rv that you were building? Did you end up selling it?

And subd...:smokin:

Ok, so this last weekend really shook up two projects.

This cab is coming off this chassis... and going onto a 5T frame, with a Duramax, 6 speed Allison, Axletech 600 t-case and Axletech 4K axles, with Pete Air ride rear. Cause the little body doesn't fit this chasis... it needs some GIRTH.

And this came home to roost yesterday. Will sell off the 8 lug 19.5's

Llike all things, when you put more eye balls on it, the project changes a little bit. Audie, the G506 keeps it's 5t chassis, but loses it's engine and trans to this... and the engine and trans I built for this goes into Audie.

This, War Pig 12 AKA Big Uglier will be built like Big Ugly, that was sold to Pyleit to cremate and celebrate CamaroGenius, the first of his name. I still miss that truck.

Yes, the Durmax and Allison goes into this.

It has a P30 frame under it, with heavy GVW. That stays. The body's already mounted to it, just needs a set of middle body mounts. Funny, it has Gen 1 style engine mounts. I have gen 1 style engine mounts on the Duramax already. I it has a GM style trans mount and cross member in it already.

I also found a very ugly 9' step side bed. It will get rust repair and the same flat black paint.

I have a plethora of air charge coolers, AC condensers and such to fit in the IH nose. It gets the full Duramax treatment, plus a plush interior.

The big rear springs stay but get a shackle flip to mount the tires I have planned.

A divorced NP205 will go in place of the divorced NV271 we had planned.

Not my truck, but the inspiration for Big Uglier, AKA War Pig the 12th.

I will turn the service body into a trailer using the old G506 frame and a set of F550 springs on a single dual axle. Air compressor, welder, tools, etc all go into that.

Why do I feel like I am playing three card monty trying to keep up with where all the parts go, and where they stop nobody knows

Yet somehow I know that some bitchen trucks will be built.

My friends call it Grendel Auto Attention Deficit Disorder

Shit happens, you react to it. Path of least resistance and the desire to work on something changes things.

Eh, it's an evolutionary process. I know what it all looks like now.

It's also not like someone's done this before, like an SBC into a YJ or something, and you just buy all the shit to put it in.

I don't think Grendel knows where they are going either:flipoff2:
wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==

I know where they're going now, it's not the same place they were going before this truck was delivered and I was able to take measurements.

So to recap:

This truck is getting the Duramax, an Allison and a NP205 on the P30 chassis it's on... 4.33 geared Ford SD 60 front and elocked Stirling rear. It also gets a LOOOOONNG Step Side bed and will probably ride on military 12R20 tires in a dual rear config. It will look like Big Ugly V2.

The utility bed goes on another frame I have, to become a trailer with a 6K generator, air compressor, welder and plasma cutter, plus a small crane, I already own. Single axle also on dual 12R20 tires. A mobile shop.
